Delay in John Amos’ Death Announcement: Publicist Responds to Late Actor’s Daughter’s “False” Claims

The news of John Amos’ passing left fans and netizens in shock. He died on August 21, 2024, but the announcement of his death was made a full 40 days later. His publicist, Belinda Foster, disclosed that John had requested the delay to prevent his passing from becoming a “circus.”

This statement followed accusations from John’s daughter and other family members, who claimed that Belinda and Amos’ son had kept him away from the family.

On October 1, Amy Goudy, the goddaughter of the late actor, shared a lengthy Facebook post on behalf of John’s daughter and other family members, expressing their shock at learning of John’s death solely through media reports.

They also alleged that “John Amos was isolated from his family and close friends by Kelly ‘KC’ Amos, Eugene Brummet, and Belinda Foster.”

The statement continued:

“Despite our repeated attempts to maintain contact, KC prevented access to him, controlled and monitored his calls and severed ties with John’s daughter Shannon Amos, his brother Leslie ‘Syl’ Franklin, his grandchildren Quiera Colston and Jhazz Williams, his business manager Paul Baldessare, his goddaughter Amy Goudy, his niece Sherri Korsun, his former accountant, and other close family members.”

Additionally, the statement accused KC of having a “complex” relationship with John, despite their portrayal of a close father-son dynamic on social media.

In response, Amos’ publicist dismissed the allegations.

“Shannon’s claims that John was abused are false. KC, I, and numerous others cared for him. On several occasions when Shannon alleged abuse, law enforcement authorities met with John and confirmed his well-being,” Foster stated.

It’s important to note that KC Amos, John Amos’ son, revealed that his father passed away at the age of 84 in his home in Los Angeles.

“It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death” — Delving into Belinda Foster’s statement as John Amos’ family accuses the publicist and his son

As John Amos’ family accused his publicist and son of failing to inform them about his death, Belinda Foster issued a statement countering the claims made by Amos’ daughter.

Foster began her statement by highlighting her more than 30 years of representation of John Amos as a publicist and the familial bond they shared. Speaking to People Magazine, Foster shared:

“He was like a father to me. I deeply mourn his passing. At the time of John’s death, KC was under a strict no-contact order from the Superior Court of New Jersey due to a complaint filed against him by his sister Shannon in 2023. As a condition of his pretrial release, KC was prohibited from any contact with Shannon, whether directly or indirectly, including via phone, social media, or any other method of communication.”

Foster elaborated:

“John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had with other aspects of his life. It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death to Shannon and the public.”

Furthermore, in the statement released by the family, it was noted that Amos suffered from dementia and passed away due to congestive heart failure. People Magazine also reported that John Amos’ death certificate did not indicate any other significant health-related issues.

Additionally, the death certificate, obtained by People, confirmed that John was cremated on August 30, 2024, just nine days after his passing.
