Defeating Gideaux: A Guide to the Metaphor ReFantazio

In Metaphor ReFantazio, players will encounter formidable challengers for the throne, including Gideaux. As a church representative, Gideaux poses a significant threat, mainly because you cannot engage him directly due to the protective nature of the King’s Blessing. Unfortunately, you will not have that luxury at this stage.

Employing the correct Affinities during the boss encounter with Gideaux is crucial, just as it is for all boss fights in this role-playing game. While this encounter isn’t overly long or complex, it serves as a critical prelude to the trials that lie ahead. Here’s a guide on how to handle Gideaux.

Should you assist Glodell against Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio?

The key consideration during the Gideaux boss fight is whether you should intervene. Simply affirm your willingness to help. Doing so will benefit you, despite Glodell’s notable paranoia.

Assisting Glodell is strategically sound, as your primary objective is to build favor with Louis. Given that Glodell is one of Louis’s subordinates, helping him is advantageous, even if Glodell appears ungrateful for your intervention in his conflict.

Since you cannot inflict direct damage on Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio, concentrate your efforts on eliminating his two allies. He comes to battle with a Mage Monk and a Spearmonk, and it’s advisable to take down the Mage Monk first.

The spells cast by the Mage Monk can be particularly aggravating. It has high resistance to most spells; therefore, using Physical attacks is your best option. In my experience, utilizing Hulkenberg as a Brawler—one of the most effective followers—was invaluable. Given that my party leaned heavily on magic, I ended up casting spells against the Mage Monk, consisting of a Mage, Brawler, and Healer. Consequently, prioritizing the Spearmonk became the optimal strategy.

This enemy is susceptible to Ice Magic, which made having Strohl as a Mage incredibly advantageous in my situation. However, don’t let your guard down; the Mage Monk possesses a potent AoE Ice attack that can be devastating if your characters are weak to it. Additionally, it has access to Wind Magic, requiring your caution. Gideaux will also make occasional strikes, employing light-based attacks in both single-target and AoE formats.

The Spearmonk is particularly dangerous with an attack that not only inflicts significant direct damage but also debuffs your defenses, making it a tough adversary. Ensure you stock up on healing and reviving items, as well as some Ice items, prior to in-game time reaching 6/26. Additionally, be wary of Gideaux activating his Mage Benevolence, a powerful AoE healing spell.

A tedious battle against his allies can quickly become frustrating if they are healed nearly back to full health. Maintain your focus on eliminating one ally at a time to achieve victory. Once both allies have been vanquished, the battle concludes.

Your reward is the satisfaction of having assisted Glodell. Express that you “wanted to help,” then engage in a conversation with Louis. Inform him that you are a contender for the throne, primarily motivated by the desire to assist him. He will appreciate your honesty, allowing you to proceed with the storyline.
