Defeating Diana Marmont: Tips for Alan Wake 2 at The Lake House
In the gripping conclusion of Alan Wake 2’s The Lake House DLC, protagonist Agent Estevez confronts the ultimate adversary: Diana Marmont. Once a leading scientist at the facility, she has succumbed to the Dark Presence and transformed into a Taken, losing her former self.
This formidable foe poses a significant challenge, even for seasoned players of the original Alan Wake 2. With Diana being the sole boss encounter in this DLC, this guide provides essential strategies for players struggling to vanquish her.
Strategies for Overcoming Diana Marmont in Alan Wake 2 The Lake House
Players will encounter Diana in Sublevel 5, the lower chamber of the Lake House. Despite her possession, she exhibits deep emotions, notably when she kills her husband, Jules Marmont, who has also become a Taken. As the battle initiates, players should implement familiar tactics used against other Taken foes: dispel the darkness surrounding her to lower her defenses while maintaining distance.
Equipping a shotgun is crucial for inflicting significant damage whenever an opportunity presents itself. Throughout the confrontation, Diana will pursue Estevez, closing the gap with swift lunges and attempting to land punches, which can be dodged. Additionally, she will charge an area-of-effect attack using dark miasma, so players should quickly escape its blast radius to avoid substantial damage.
Once Diana has sustained enough damage, she will teleport to one of the adjacent platforms and hurl projectiles towards the player. To evade these attacks, seek cover behind objects and collect ammunition and consumables scattered throughout the arena, particularly near the small containers by the central water feature. Don’t forget to aim and shoot at her with the pistol whenever the chance arises.
Shortly after, Diana will summon the painting monsters first encountered in Sublevel 1. The only way to eliminate these creatures is by using the Black Rock Launcher available in Alan Wake 2 The Lake House. Focus on attacking the monsters while dodging Diana’s projectiles; taking cover behind the central metal railing will provide an effective strategy for the latter.
Once this phase wraps up, she will return to the arena floor. Prepare the flashlight and repeat the previous steps until she is finally defeated. While this battle appears straightforward, players should be aware that the scarcity of healing items can dramatically increase the challenge. Most items found in the vicinity consist of ammunition and offensive equipment, such as flashbangs.
Players entering the fray without any healing supplies will find this encounter particularly daunting. Fortunately, the Alan Wake 2 Anniversary Update, released alongside this DLC, introduces several quality-of-life enhancements, including gameplay assist cheats. These features are invaluable for those who find themselves in dire situations with no healing options and no reliable manual save points.
Alan Wake 2 The Lake House DLC is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S via the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition.
