Debut of China’s First Fully Localized Server Powered by Loongson 3C6000 CPUs in Dual-Silicon Setup

Loongson, one of China’s prominent CPU manufacturers, has introduced the country’s inaugural in-house server, marking a notable advancement in its computational infrastructure. This significant development features a dual-CPU setup, showcasing solid processing capabilities tailored to the domestic market.

Introducing Loongson’s Groundbreaking In-House Server

The recent strides made by China in the technology sector, particularly in computing, have garnered attention, especially in light of U. S.export restrictions. As outlined in a report by MyDrivers, Loongson has successfully created a “100% in-house”server featuring two of its advanced 3C6000 processors. This innovative server configuration boasts up to 64 physical cores, integrated through a proprietary technology known as “Loongson Coherent Link, ”thereby providing a robust option for local enterprises.

The 3C6000 processors included in this server configuration offer a powerful 16-core and 32-thread architecture, representing substantial enhancements compared to the earlier 3C5000 series. Notably, Loongson has focused on expanding CPU interconnectivity, which now supports up to eight-way connections. This allows a single server rack to accommodate as many as 128 cores and 256 threads, with the new interconnect technology dubbed the “Dragon Chain”being a critical factor in the server’s performance capabilities.

In internal assessments, Loongson’s 3C6000 CPU has shown performance metrics similar to those of Intel’s Xeon 4314 processor, which is from the “Ice Lake”generation and possesses comparable core and thread counts. Although the performance may not yet rival that of leading players in the market, this was not the primary goal for Loongson. Rather, the company aims to establish a sustainable growth trajectory and capitalize on emerging market opportunities, which appears to be materializing effectively.

As China increasingly pivots toward domestic hardware, Loongson’s technologies have begun to see considerable adoption, particularly within government sectors. While the company acknowledges it has a significant journey ahead, the impressive pace of their innovations suggests that Loongson is poised to have a considerable impact on the local tech landscape moving forward.
