Death Stranding 2 Guide: Tips for Restoring Roads

In the expansive world of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the experience goes beyond merely maneuvering deliveries, led by the distinguished Norman Reedus. An equally significant aspect is the endeavor to rebuild critical infrastructure scattered throughout the game’s landscape.

Players can restore vital roads and the monorail system, both facilitating smoother navigation across the terrain. By improving these transport routes, players can enhance the speed and efficiency of deliveries, bypassing challenging areas with ease.

While the monorail excels in transporting heavy cargo, it’s the roads that truly transform delivery missions into a delightful experience. This guide outlines the steps necessary to restore roads in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Auto Pavers in Death Stranding 2 On the Beach

The process of restoring roads in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach mirrors that of the original 2019 title. To initiate restoration, players must locate and interact with Auto-Pavers, strategically positioned throughout the game’s open world.

To activate these Auto-Pavers, you need to gather specific materials, including Chiral Crystals, Metals, and Ceramics. Once you have amassed enough resources, you can input them into the Auto-Paver, triggering a cutscene that depicts the road repair. From my experience, preparing around 2000 Chiral Crystals, 6000 Metals, and 6400 Ceramics for each Auto-Paver works well. Fortunately, these materials are not overly difficult to collect.

If you encounter an Auto-Paver and lack the full amount of required materials, I encourage you to contribute whatever you can. Even a minor investment can stimulate progress, fostering a collaborative effort as other players also contribute to the restoration. While some players may gravitate toward walking as the primary mode of transport, established roads remain essential.

Additionally, the game will notify you when fellow players invest materials into an Auto-Paver, enhancing community engagement.

Locating Auto-Pavers

Auto-Pavers won’t be visible on the map until you discover them for the first time. They are typically found at the termination points of roads that remain incomplete. If you notice a road that abruptly halts without connecting to a facility or significant location, there is likely an Auto-Paver nearby awaiting materials.

Upon your first discovery of an Auto-Paver, it will be marked on your map for easier access in the future. This feature allows you to venture forth, gather the necessary materials, and return to the Auto-Paver to continue your restoration efforts.

Gathering Road Materials

Before embarking on the journey of road restoration in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, accumulating a sufficient quantity of materials is crucial. The essential components for road restoration include Chiral Crystals, Ceramics, and Metals.

Numerous strategies exist to obtain these resources, with some proving to be notably more effective:

  • Chiral Crystals: Primarily sourced from mines and through defeating BTs.
  • Metals: Can be found at Bandit camps and under the “Claim Materials”tab at facilities’ terminals.
  • Ceramics: Similarly obtainable from Bandit camps and the terminal materials section.

Implementing these strategies will expedite your resource collection, equipping you with what is necessary for road restoration.

Prior to entering a Bandit camp, ensure you are well-equipped for potential encounters. Verify that you have sufficient weaponry on hand, and consider enhancing your stealth capabilities for a smoother operation.
