From my own experience assembling Death Korps units as part of the Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Starter Set, I was well aware of the intricate assembly process associated with these figures. Indeed, the Combat Engineers feature minuscule grenades and pouches, which require patience and precision to attach correctly. While experienced builders may find these challenges manageable, novice hobbyists could encounter some frustration during assembly.
I particularly appreciated putting together the Lord Marshal Drier miniature. This dynamic and intricately designed kit represents what might be one of this year’s standout miniatures. Furthermore, I valued the customization options within the Death Riders units, where interchangeable horse and rider combinations offer a refreshing level of creativity.
The artillery unit is predominantly a diorama, boasting distinct advantages and a few drawbacks. One of the standout features is the interchangeable turret options, allowing players to modify gun parts post-assembly, which diverges from traditional Games Workshop designs. As the game evolves from rigid building rules to ones embracing creativity, this flexibility could be a significant shift. Nevertheless, painters should note that pre-assembly painting of individual figures is advisable due to the complexity of placement during assembly.
The most significant drawback regarding this Army Box (a common critique of similar products from Games Workshop) is that it’s tailored to augment existing armies rather than initiate new ones. Despite the inclusion of two remarkable centerpiece models, this box ultimately provides just a fraction of the total miniatures required for a competitive 2,000-point Astra Militarium army. Thus, while it is still worthy of consideration, prospective buyers should set precise expectations regarding its capacity to build a fresh army within Warhammer 40K.
