The concluding episode of Dear Hyeri revealed the heartfelt reconciliation between Joo Eun-ho (played by Shin Hye-sun) and Jung Hyun-oh (depicted by Lee Jin-wook). In a poignant dream sequence, Joo Eun-ho encountered her younger self and candidly shared her past traumas and heartaches with Jung Hyun-oh.
During their emotional exchange, Joo Eun-ho opened up about her sister, Joo Hye-ri, who vanished mysteriously. She described her attempts to live as Joo Hye-ri to comprehend the joys her sister experienced. Upon waking, she found Jung Hyun-oh by her side. Later, she met with Kim Min-young (Oh Kyung-hwa) in Media N Seoul’s parking structure, where she disclosed her struggle with dissociative identity disorder, mentioning that Hyeri represented her second personality.
In another encounter, Joo Eun-ho spoke with Kang Ju-yeon (Kang Hoon), telling him that they would amicably part ways, noting Hyeri’s deep affection for him. At her workplace, she received an exciting opportunity to anchor the 7 pm news broadcast for a duration of two weeks.
To commemorate this personal achievement, Joo Eun-ho invited Jung Hyun-oh to revisit the site of their initial date. However, Jung Hyun-oh hesitated, fearing the location’s popularity—thanks to its appearance in a drama—would attract a crowd. Instead, he opted to escort her home, introducing her to four of his grandmothers along the way.
As the series wrapped up, Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh appeared to have triumphed over their past difficulties and forged a joyful future together. Joo Eun-ho ultimately recognized that true happiness is about staying close to her loved ones for life.
Finale Recap of Dear Hyeri: Joo Eun-ho Persuades Jung Hyun-oh to Step in for the 9 PM Broadcast
In episode 11 of Dear Hyeri, Jeon Jae-yong (Yoon Joo-man) found himself receiving calls from a victim’s son whose enterprise had folded due to a misinformation incident. Rather than meeting with Jeon Yong, Jung Hyun-oh chose to connect with the victim’s son. The episode concluded on a suspenseful note with Jung Hyun-oh being struck by a truck.
However, the ultimate episode clarified that Jeon Jae-yong had pushed Jung Hyun-oh out of the way and became the victim of the accident instead. It showcased a flashback where a younger Jung Hyun-oh encountered Joo Eun-ho, discussing the impact of his father’s gambling habits and the abandonment by his mother.
The younger Jung Hyun-oh expressed to Joo Eun-ho that one must bear the consequences of one’s misfortunes independently. In response, Joo Eun-ho suggested that his hardships could shape him into a more competent individual or open up new opportunities.
Following Jeon Jae-yong’s accident, Jung Hyun-oh fell into a state of shock, grappling with the realization that someone could suffer due to his actions. As a prominent news anchor, he was urged by the press chief to fill in for Jeon Jae-yong during the 9 pm news, but he declined, feeling responsible for the mishap.
The press chief expressed regret for overburdening him, ultimately opting for Jeon Jae-yong to handle the 9 pm broadcast. While Jung Hyun-oh acknowledged the situation, he felt it was inappropriate to take Jeon Jae-yong’s position while he was in critical care.
With concerns rising in the newsroom about Jeon Jae-yong’s vacant role, employees endeavored to persuade Jung Hyun-oh to step into the broadcast, but their efforts fell short. It was Joo Eun-ho who took the initiative to speak to him privately, recognizing his fear, and enveloped him in a supportive embrace. He confided that misfortune could bring opportunity, but it was not what he yearned for, and he felt frightened.
In episode 12 of Dear Hyeri, Joo Eun-ho encouraged him to hold the fort until Jeon Jae-yong returned, informing him he could transition the role back upon his recovery. Eventually, Jung Hyun-oh was persuaded and agreed to step in for the 9 pm news broadcast.
Possibilities for a Dear Hyeri Season 2 Considered
Meanwhile, Baek Hye-yeon (Jo Hye-joo) resigned from her position at Media N Seoul and joined PPS, where Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh were employed. Upon encountering Joo Eun-ho, she discovered that Hyeri was a figment of Joo Eun-ho’s imagination rather than a tangible entity. When Kang Ju-yeon realized that Baek Hye-yeon had blocked him, he reached out to Joo Eun-ho, asking her to convey a message. Baek Hye-yeon disclosed her struggle to move on from Kang Ju-yeon, resulting in her decision to block him.
Concluding Dear Hyeri, Joo Eun-ho had overcome her prior emotional turmoil and didn’t experience the emergence of Hyeri. She made a choice to part ways with Hyeri, hosting a farewell celebration at Jung Hyun-oh’s residence, inviting those who had known Hyeri. Guests including Kang Ju-yeon, Baek Hye-yeon, and Moon Ji-on expressed their goodbyes, although Kim Min-young hesitated, as a supporter of Hyeri. Nonetheless, Joo Eun-ho resolved to build a friendship with Kim Min-young upon hearing her sentiments.
In a heartwarming conclusion, Jung Hyun-oh proposed to Joo Eun-ho, who readily accepted. Following her gathering with Kang Ju-yeon at the celebration, Baek Hye-yeon decided to unblock him. Grandmother Yang Mi-Ja (Choi Soo-min) joyfully observed the budding romance between Jung Hyun-oh and Joo Eun-ho.
With the happily-ever-after ending of Dear Hyeri, the likelihood of a second season appears minimal, as no confirmations have been issued by the production team as of yet.
