Recap of Episodes 9 & 10 of Dear Hyeri : Joo Eun-ho Releases Hyeri
In episode 9, Kang Ju-yeon confessed to Jung Hyun-oh about his deep feelings for Hyeri, acknowledging her fictitious nature. He yearned to communicate his affection to her, even knowing she was Joo Eun-ho. However, unable to connect with Joo Eun-ho directly, he sought Jung Hyun-oh’s help, causing shock for Jung Hyun-oh.
Jung Hyun-oh was even more astonished to learn that Joo Eun-ho’s alternate personality, Hyeri, was in a relationship. Kang Ju-yeon challenged Jung Hyun-oh’s concern for Joo Eun-ho, pointing out that it was only her other self, Hyeri, that seemed to trouble him. He also remarked on how isolated Joo Eun-ho might have felt, having severed ties with everyone.
Reflecting on past moments, Jung Hyun-oh recalled opportunities he missed to support Joo Eun-ho. He attempted to meet her psychiatrist to gain insights into Hyeri’s character, but the doctor maintained confidentiality, suggesting she might discuss it if Joo Eun-ho consented in the future.
Later in the episode, following his investigations, Jung Hyun-oh learned that Hyeri (Joo Eun-ho) had started her job at Media N Seoul approximately three to four years ago, aligned with their breakup timeline. Overwhelmed with emotion, he believed he may have unwittingly contributed to Joo Eun-ho’s condition of dissociative identity disorder.
By episode 9’s conclusion, a call from the police informed him that they had located someone. He hurried to the nearby police station located by the forest where Joo Hye-ri had disappeared. To his astonishment, the identity confirmed was Joo Eun-ho.
In Dear Hyeri episode 10, Jung Hyun-oh took Joo Eun-ho home, noticing the transformation into Hyeri. While he tried to engage her in conversation, she remained mute. Discovering Joo Eun-ho’s phone, he answered a call from Kang Ju-yeon, reassuring him she was safe and well.
Kang Ju-yeon and Moon Ji-on swiftly arrived at Joo Eun-ho’s home to check on her. Moon Ji-on was introduced to the details of Joo Eun-ho’s mental health condition. A dispute arose between Moon Ji-on and Kang Ju-yeon regarding who would assume the role of guardian, given Joo Eun-ho’s lack of family. Ultimately, Jung Hyun-oh declared himself her guardian.
The following day, as Jung Hyun-oh aimed to take Hyeri (Joo Eun-ho) to seek medical assistance, they encountered Kang Ju-yeon, who awaited outside her home. Despite Jung Hyun-oh’s attempts to prevent Kang Ju-yeon from approaching, he expressed his unconditional support for Joo Eun-ho, emphasizing that whether she was Hyeri or Joo Eun-ho, all he desired was her well-being. Kang Ju-yeon articulated his need to be there for her, appreciating her genuine affection towards him. Hyeri impulsively embraced Kang Ju-yeon, requesting that Jung Hyun-oh give them privacy.
When questioned by Kang Ju-yeon on her identity, Hyeri acknowledged that she was Joo Eun-ho, sharing that she had taken refuge in the woods where her sister vanished. This act was an attempt to comprehend Hyeri’s joy that she felt was unattainable for herself. Hyeri thanked Kang Ju-yeon for his love during her dark times but conveyed the end of their relationship.
Later in episode 10, Moon Ji-on shared with Jung Hyun-oh that he had visited the police station after learning from colleagues about a person resembling Joo Eun-ho being spotted nearby. He recounted his visit to the forest where Joo Eun-ho had been living, indicating that she had distanced herself due to profound self-hatred.
Moon Ji-on remarked that Joo Eun-ho was willing to cast aside her past and even parts of herself in her desperate quest to be like Hyeri, with the exception of Jung Hyun-oh. He presented Jung Hyun-oh with a piece of paper he found in Joo Eun-ho’s cabin that depicted a sketch of a necklace Jung Hyun-oh’s mother hoped to receive from her.
He expressed the sentiment that although Jung Hyun-oh seemed unworthy of Joo Eun-ho, he was still her only rightful match, and that patience would reward Jung Hyun-oh with a possible chance to be with her again.
As episode 10 concluded, Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh reunited at the stairs where their relationship had once faltered. They shared a heartfelt hug and sealed it with a kiss.
