In the fifth episode, Joo Eun-ho feels comforted as she sees Jung Hyun-oh taking care of her. Concerned for her well-being, he accompanies her to the hospital, where she shares that she has been seeking medical advice. However, Jung Hyun-oh cannot enter the hospital with her. Inside, Joo Eun-ho discusses her sister Hyeri and her own struggles with dissociative identity disorder with her doctor.

She reveals to her physician about a letter from Hyeri, expressing her happiness and desire to remain in Joo Eun-ho’s life indefinitely. The doctor prompts Joo Eun-ho to describe Hyeri (Kim Si-eun), drawing her back to memories of their childhood.

Following the tragic loss of their parents in a car accident, Joo Eun-ho and Hyeri were raised by a distant grandmother. Joo Eun-ho feels indebted to the grandmother for her kindness, while Hyeri, in contrast, believes their guardian loved them unconditionally.

Joo Eun-ho insisted that Hyeri participate in their high school graduation trip, reasoning that forming friendships would aid her sister’s future independence. Regrettably, things went awry when Hyeri went missing, and shortly after, their grandmother passed away, leaving Joo Eun-ho utterly alone.

Determined to do everything Hyeri had yearned for, Joo Eun-ho hoped it would bring her sister joy. However, this led to Joo Eun-ho developing dissociative identity disorder. After a grocery run, she and Jung Hyun-oh return home, where Kang Ju-yeon (portrayed by Kang Hoon), who has just learned of Hyeri’s relationship with Joo Eun-ho, sees them from a distance.

The following day, as Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh make lunch plans, Jung Hyun-oh sadly has to cancel due to one of his grandmothers having an accident. Just when it seemed they were reconciling, Jung Hyun-oh hurriedly departs, making Joo Eun-ho acutely aware of their breakup.

By episode 5’s conclusion, Jung Hyun-oh briefly returns, suggesting that Joo Eun-ho should occasionally get sick so he can come back, but she firmly declines, recalling the sorrow of their previous breakup. With a smile, she insists she will maintain her health, delivering a final farewell.

As “Dear Hyeri”episode 6 unfolds, Jung Hyun-oh’s responsibilities towards his grandmothers are elaborated upon. His mother abandoned him with a gambling father, who amassed a large debt. Tragically, after their house burned down, Jung Hyun-oh’s grandmother took him in, promising to erase his father’s debts in exchange for his commitment to support her and the other grandmothers as they aged.

Meanwhile, at her job, Joo Eun-ho discovers that Jung Hyun-oh declined a prime-time news slot to allow her to keep her noon broadcast. She feels infuriated, aware of her professional capabilities and limitations, and accuses him of underestimating her. Despite feeling inadequate as his girlfriend, she is determined not to hinder his career aspirations and urges him to reclaim his position.

As the episode draws to a close, Joo Eun-ho encounters Kang Ju-yeon in a parking lot, stepping into her role as Hyeri after some time apart. The trajectory of Joo Eun-ho’s journey remains uncertain in upcoming episodes of “Dear Hyeri.”
