Recap of Episodes 7 & 8 of Dear Hyeri: Joo Eun-ho’s Job Loss and Hyeri’s Emergence
In episode 7 of Dear Hyeri, Jung Hyun-oh struggles to secure a spot on the 9 PM news broadcast. Meanwhile, Joo Eun-ho’s attempts to persuade the executives to facilitate his audition fall short. This episode features a formal introduction between Joo Eun-ho, Jung Hyun-oh, and Kang Ju-yeon during the tripod media campaign. Kang Ju-yeon notices a striking resemblance between Joo Eun-ho and Hyeri, leading him to believe they must be sisters.
Kang Ju-yeon introduces himself and can’t help but notice a bandage on Joo Eun-ho’s hand, contrasting with Hyeri’s scar. Following her, he mistakenly calls her by Hyeri’s name, leaving them both in shock. As Kang Ju-yeon’s suspicions about Hyeri’s relationship and contacts grow, he begins to suspect that Joo Eun-ho is juggling two relationships.
However, Joo Eun-ho opens up to Kang Ju-yeon during a café visit, sharing that she is dealing with dissociative personality disorder and that Hyeri is, in fact, her alternate identity. Despite her recent realization, Kang Ju-yeon finds it hard to process this revelation.
She tells him that Hyeri holds significant feelings for him. In a hopeful attempt, Kang Ju-yeon reassures her that whenever her alter ego re-emerges, he will wait for her. Overcome with emotion, Joo Eun-ho can only apologize.
As episode 7 concludes, Joo Eun-ho overhears a conversation where a colleague questions Jung Hyun-oh about marriage, leaving her bewildered. In episode 8, the prospect of Jung Hyun-oh’s wedding leaves Joo Eun-ho in shock.
In a heartbreaking moment, Jung Hyun-oh’s adoptive grandmother Mi-Ja (Choi Soo-min) reveals her battle with breast cancer and her refusal to undergo treatment, expressing a desire to live life as normal. However, when Jung Hyun-oh pleads with her for treatment, Mi-Ja stipulates that she will only agree if he ties the knot.
Eun Shin-young’s sister, Eun Cho-rong, expresses her interest in marrying Jung Hyun-oh, but he dismisses the idea, stating his responsibilities toward his four grandmothers prevent him from involving anyone else in his family matters.
Later on in episode 8, Joo Eun-ho confronts Jung Hyun-oh about the marriage rumors, angrily demanding to know the identity of his supposed bride. When Jung Hyun-oh attempts to clarify, she interrupts, declaring her lack of interest since they are no longer together.
Joo Eun-ho is furious, remembering that Jung Hyun-oh ended their relationship after she brought up marriage four years prior, yet now finds him pondering the very idea. She confronts him about whether she meant anything to him during their time together and questions if he ever considered marrying her specifically.
Her focus at work suffers due to her preoccupation with Jung Hyun-oh, leading to the loss of three broadcast opportunities, including a spot on the 12 PM news that Jung Hyun-oh had appealed to the Press Director to salvage in exchange for his own time slot. Joo Eun-ho feels crushed, believing her emotional turmoil is imposing on those around her.
By episode 8’s conclusion, Joo Eun-ho begins to notice stark contrasts between her journal entries and those of Hyeri. While Hyeri’s notes reflect joy in the little things and affection for Kang Ju-yeon, Joo Eun-ho’s writings reveal her struggles with happiness, dissatisfaction with her work performance, and a deep-seated self-loathing.
One notable entry from Hyeri addresses Joo Eun-ho, implying that Joo Eun-ho had failed to find happiness, and now it was time for Hyeri to take charge.
This episode concludes with Joo Eun-ho potentially exiting her position at PPS. Meanwhile, Kang Ju-yeon seeks Jung Hyun-oh, inquiring about Joo Eun-ho’s whereabouts and introducing himself as Hyeri’s boyfriend, a revelation that takes Jung Hyun-oh by surprise.
