Expanding the Roster: Stephen King and M3GAN in Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight, crafted by Behaviour Interactive, continues to evolve, and recent insights reveal the developers’ enthusiasm for incorporating iconic figures from horror, such as Stephen King and M3GAN, the chilling automaton from the 2022 film. With characters like The Houndmaster, the first Killer featuring an AI companion, and Survivor Taurie Cain introduced in the latest chapter, the game continually refreshes its narrative.
Since its launch in 2016, this asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game has captivated audiences by pitting one Killer against four Survivors, where the Killer’s objective is to sacrifice each Survivor to the ominous Entity. The recent collaboration with Resident Evil has also significantly thrilled horror enthusiasts, especially with the upcoming movie reboot directed by Zach Cregger, known for his gripping work in Barbarian.

In a conversation with TheGamer, game director Mathieu Côté shared his enthusiasm for potentially including Stephen King as a character, highlighting King’s ability to blend into various narratives across his works. Despite Côté’s excitement, he acknowledged the challenge, given King’s known disinterest in video games, a sentiment echoed in their discussions.
Adding to this conversation, senior game designer Jean Escalante expressed a keen interest in bringing the character M3GAN into the game, recognizing the potential for thrilling interactions. M3GAN, brought to life by the creative minds behind The Conjuring, presents an intriguing concept of AI that spirals into danger. This addition would complement the existing roster, which already features other iconic horror figures like Chucky, recently given a Charred skin update to enhance his menacing presence.
The February update for Dead by Daylight has also invigorated the player community by addressing numerous bugs, renewing gameplay elements such as The Nightmare, and teasing the much-anticipated return of the 2v8 mode, complete with new characters and maps. The developers have made strides to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience by correcting imbalances and refining gameplay transitions, culminating with specific adjustments to The Nightmare’s teleportation effects.
