While a simple increase in boost clock speeds may not automatically enhance performance across all applications, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating forthcoming BIOS updates from AMD that could unlock further potential.
Redditors Trial Ryzen 7 9850X3D: Users Hit 900+ FPS in CS2 and Comparable Results to 9800X3D
Set to officially launch at a price of $499 on January 29, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is already in the hands of some users, acquired through various retailers and resellers. A Reddit user reported purchasing this new CPU at a price of $570 and has initiated multiple benchmarking tests. He attributes part of his success to the latest MSI BIOS update released in December 2025, which helped resolve initial compatibility challenges with the new processor.

The original poster, u/dobum, shared that under stock BIOS settings with Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) enabled, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D achieved a score of 568 points in the single-thread Cinebench 2026 benchmark. This result mirrors the performance of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, implying that the two models may exhibit similar capabilities. While specific single-core and multi-thread scores have yet to be verified, substantial performance improvements are unlikely. However, it is essential to note that motherboard manufacturers plan to release updated BIOS versions that should enhance compatibility and performance before the CPU’s official launch.

In a related account, another user, u/kronoseedlc, reported his inability to achieve a boost of 5.7 GHz across all cores while using the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi motherboard with the most recent AGESA PI pre-1.3.0.0 BIOS. While this BIOS offers compatibility for newer Ryzen processors, it does not guarantee complete stability, which could explain the limitations in reaching the desired clock speeds. Interestingly, another user did manage to attain 5.75 GHz on all cores; however, specifics regarding their tuning settings remain undisclosed.

Gaming benchmarks conducted by u/kronoseedlc also provided insightful results, showing that the Ryzen 9850X3D could achieve over 900 FPS on average in Counter-Strike 2, particularly when paired with the GeForce RTX 5090. This level of performance may also be attainable with the Ryzen 9800X3D or 7800X3D, suggesting that while the new processor shows promise, further benchmarks will be necessary to draw definitive conclusions. Updates will be provided once the review embargo is lifted.
