After completing Chapter 3-5 in Monster Hunter Wilds, players will experience the game’s credits rolling. However, this does not signify the end of the adventure. There is still an array of story content and formidable monsters waiting to be encountered, so don’t be concerned if you feel the main campaign is somewhat brief.
Upon finishing the mission against Zoh Shia, players should return to the Plains Base Camp. Here, you’ll find a new Side Mission available at Alma’s tent. Speak to Samin, who can be found sitting in a chair at the back of the tent.

Samin will acknowledge your efforts in capturing Endemic Life for Dareel’s Research Report and invite you to do the same in the Scarlet Forest. Specifically, he tasks you with locating and capturing a Dapperwing butterfly.
How to Capture a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
Samin’s Research Report Guide – MH Wilds
To successfully capture a Dapperwing, players need to know its habitat within the Scarlet Forest.
We discovered a pair of Dapperwings perched on a branch beneath a bridge along the stone pathway connecting Areas 10 and 12 in the Scarlet Forest. Use our images for assistance in locating them, specifically at the northern end of the corridor.

It’s important to note that our sighting occurred during the daytime, which may be a factor in your search.

Once the Dapperwing is located, equip your Capture Net and fire it to successfully catch the creature. Access the Capture Net using the quick selection tool. Alternatively, you can hold the left bumper and navigate using Square and Circle (PS5) or X and B (Xbox) to find the net; it is typically located near other tools like the Fishing Rod and BBQ set.
After capturing the Dapperwing, you have the option to continue exploring the Scarlet Forest or head back to the Plains to report your success to Samin.
Notes About the Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
- Dapperwing Location: Scarlet Forest
- Biological Notes: Dapperwings are renowned for their striking male plumage which becomes particularly vibrant after molting. During the Fallow season, male Dapperwings blend into the subdued greens of their environment. However, as the Plenty season arrives, males preen and flaunt a diverse range of bright colors—likely to attract mates. Interestingly, it seems that the most flamboyant males with larger feathers tend to have better success in courtship.
