Apple M4 Max Achieves Close to 100FPS in 1080p Non-Native PRAGMATA Demo with Max Settings, No Upscaling or Frame Generation

The highly anticipated sci-fi action-adventure title, PRAGMATA, is set to launch on April 24 across various platforms. As excitement builds, players have already experienced a taste of the game through a demo that reveals its exceptional graphics and steady high frame rates. This impressive performance is made possible by Capcom’s RE Engine, the same technology powering several successful games in their portfolio. However, questions linger regarding a potential release for Apple Silicon Macs, especially given Capcom’s history of porting Resident Evil titles to macOS. It remains uncertain whether PRAGMATA will join that lineup.

PRAGMATA on Mac: Analyzing M4 Max Performance and Capcom’s Porting Decisions

A recent user on Reddit, known as Equivalent-Pair6064, put the M4 Max to the test, running PRAGMATA via Crossover 26 beta 1 on their Mac Studio configured with a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. The outcomes have been quite remarkable, especially considering the inherent performance limitations introduced by the translation layer that adapts the game to run on macOS. Despite these challenges, users reported frame rates reaching an impressive 97 FPS in the initial demo area. Furthermore, the absence of upscaling or frame generation techniques was noted, implying that performance could improve even further with these enhancements added.

As of now, there has been no official comment from Capcom concerning a macOS release for PRAGMATA. It raises concerns that Mac users may only have access to this non-native version, particularly due to the disappointing sales figures of earlier Capcom releases. Recent reports indicated that the release of Resident Evil 7 on iOS garnered less than $30, 000 in revenue, while the Resident Evil 2 Remake managed fewer than 10, 000 sales. These dismal statistics may influence Capcom’s reluctance to invest resources into developing a native port for Mac systems.

Ultimately, the cost and effort required to create a macOS port for PRAGMATA could deter Capcom from moving forward. When comparing performance, our testing of the PRAGMATA demo on an RTX 4090 laptop also showed superior results. As we adjusted settings such as DLSS and Frame Generation, we achieved even higher FPS, underscoring the importance of these technologies in delivering an enhanced gaming experience.
