In the latest episode of No Ordinary Podcast, which aired on Tuesday, October 1, host DDG sparked a significant conversation among netizens with his remarks on 9-5 jobs. During the podcast, the rapper expressed:
“I believe that 9-5 jobs should primarily serve to fund your own business. No one should strive to be the… best employee of the year. That mindset is flawed because if you’re frequently late, they’ll let you go…”
He elaborated that he would also take similar actions towards his employees if they worked for him. This controversy sent netizens to various social media platforms to voice their opinions. Here are some notable tweets from X, formerly known as Twitter:
“Bro got so rich he’s now out of touch with reality”
A user online queried:
“What happens when everyone owns their own business?”
“Some people talk more than they think,”remarked another user.
“Good advice but only for someone without a degree,”commented a user.
While a number of social media users disagreed with the rapper’s views, he found support among others. A netizen tweeted:
“I completely agree with DDG. 9-5s are just a means to fund your own business. Who wants to work a 9-5 forever? Not me.”
“I started my business on the side while working a 9-5. Best decision I ever made,”added another tweet.
“This is true, everyone in the replies just broke,”asserted another user.
“Just my opinion,”- said DDG in response to backlash following his comments about 9-5 jobs
After receiving a variety of responses, many critical, rapper DDG addressed the comments on X on Thursday, October 3. He tweeted:
“It’s just my opinion that if you aim to be a boss one day, you need to invest in yourself. There’s nothing wrong with working a 9-5 your entire life if you’re okay with it. I just aim to inspire folks to dream bigger.”
This statement also attracted criticism, with many pointing out that a career in entertainment may not be as stable as traditional 9-5 jobs. One netizen tweeted:
“RARE L DDG. Not everyone should be a business owner, please just stop.”
In response to this, the rapper shot back writing:
“No, you shut up, keeyuh.”
The 26-year-old YouTuber and rapper, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., embarked on his career journey in 2014 by creating videos. DDG reportedly dropped out of college to focus on YouTube as his primary career.
He maintains several YouTube channels, including one dedicated to his music and another for vlogs. Each of his four channels boasts over 2 million followers. His music channel has accumulated approximately 744 million views, while his vlogging channel has garnered around 549 million views.
