WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #4!
As a dedicated fan of Kelly Thompson’s Absolute Wonder Woman, I recently discovered my guiding motto for 2025 within its pages—a revelation that had eluded me since the year began. This experience reflects the profound impact this series has had on me, as it has inspired deep personal reflection, a rarity for fictional narratives.
In contrast to titles like Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman speaks to me on a profoundly personal level, capturing not just humanitarian themes but emotional resonance.
Every year, I embrace a theme or word to represent my aspirations, serving as a compass for personal growth. In 2024, my focus was on “independence.”Yet, as I entered 2025, I found it challenging to identify a new word to inspire me until I read Absolute Wonder Woman #4, crafted by the talented team of Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, and Becca Carey.

From its debut, Absolute Wonder Woman quickly became one of my favorite ongoing comic series. With this latest issue, it has solidified its status as the series that defined my 2025 motto: positivity and hope.

In Absolute Wonder Woman #4, Diana faces off with the formidable Tetracide, who had previously defeated her by taking her magic-infused prosthetic arm. This issue chronicles Diana’s journey to reclaim her arm through a spell requiring specific ingredients, leading her to connect with two local witches, friends of Steve Trevor. With their assistance, she conjures a new arm. However, it is her conversation with one of the witches, Etta, that resonates with me on a profound level.
In what appears to be a simple dialogue, Diana reframes Etta’s perception of a situation, prompting her to exclaim, “You somehow make everything seem better than it is. Hopeful.” This sentiment perfectly illustrates Diana’s extraordinary ability to instill hope and positivity in every circumstance. It struck me as a beautiful way to lead life—actively choosing positivity. In that instant, I realized this is how I want to approach my own life, inspiring hope and positivity in those around me.

While I generally consider myself a pragmatically positive individual, I recognize that for me, positivity often feels more instinctive than intentional. In contrast, Diana deliberately chooses positivity. This distinction is crucial; her approach is a conscious decision, allowing her to respond rather than react—an essential difference in how we navigate our emotions. This aspiration for purposeful living is integral to my goals.
Thompson’s portrayal of Wonder Woman has profoundly resonated with me, demonstrating depth that I have seldom encountered in comic narratives. Typically, I indulge in comics for amusement, yet reading Absolute Wonder Woman #4 has sparked deep introspection that will influence my outlook for the remainder of 2025. Furthermore, Thompson has deepened my appreciation for Wonder Woman as a character, reinforcing that hope, positivity, and love form her core essence.

While I have enjoyed the latest slate of DC Absolute titles—including both Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman, which delve into significant societal issues—Absolute Wonder Woman resonates more personally with me. While both Batman and Superman tackle pressing societal commentary effectively, Absolute Wonder Woman stands out as a beacon of hope. It reassures us that even amidst darkness, goodness and positivity can triumph at an individual level.
