Exciting Updates on Days Gone Remastered and Horde Assault Mode
With the highly anticipated launch of Days Gone Remastered just around the corner on April 25, fans are treated to a brand-new trailer showcasing the game’s Horde Assault mode. Kevin McAllister, the Creative & Product Lead from Bend Studio, has also detailed fresh aspects of this game mode in a recent PlayStation Blog post.
Horde Assault: A New Survival Arcade Experience
The Horde Assault mode is crafted to test players’ skills as they aim to outlast waves of enemies while striving to achieve their highest score. Gamers will encounter an array of foes, including Breakers, Reachers, and even Raging Bears. Players start with just a sidearm, battling through an onslaught of Freakers to retrieve Deacon St. John’s essential Drifter Bike, crucial for navigating the expansive landscapes.
Strategies for Survival
To enhance survival odds, players must scavenge supply crates dispersed across the map. These crates offer more than 20 different weapons, introducing a new flamethrower exclusive to the Horde Assault mode. Weapons are randomly generated with each game reset, ensuring a fresh experience each time.
Completing side quests not only replenishes essential supplies but also provides extra XP, adding further incentive to explore the game’s world. Surviving for 30 minutes on any map leads to the Ultimate Horde challenge, where players must fend off an unending wave of enemies aiming to overwhelm them.
Level-Up Rewards and Unique Modifiers
As players progress through the Horde Assault mode, they will start leveling up Deacon St. John, unlocking in-game rewards. These include rewards such as exclusive characters, new patch cosmetics, and the unique Injectors. Known from the main game, Injectors in Horde Assault can drastically impact gameplay by introducing various modifiers. A total of 24 distinct Injectors are available, split evenly between positive and negative effects.
Examples of Gameplay Modifiers
- Exploding Freakers: When defeated, Freakers will explode, allowing players to manage high numbers more effectively.
- Wanted: Players start with maximum heat level, raising the challenge right from the beginning, as survival becomes increasingly demanding.
Reward Path and Enhanced Features
Each of the 35 levels in the Reward path brings with it a chance to earn items like Injectors, character skins, and additional patch cosmetics. Among the rewards are six new playable characters including O’Brian, Lisa, and the beloved Skizzo.
Technical Enhancements for PlayStation 5
On the PlayStation 5, Days Gone Remastered boasts significant graphical improvements, full DualSense controller support, and new accessibility features, along with an upgraded Photo Mode. For players who own the base game on PlayStation 4 or PC, the Broken Road DLC can be purchased for $10, unlocking not only the Horde Assault mode but also Permadeath and Speedrun modes.
Looking Ahead
While I enjoyed Days Gone at its release, a sequel proposal was turned down, and there are ongoing rumors about a potential movie adaptation that have yet to materialize since August 2022. Additionally, Bend Studio’s next project, an open-world multiplayer game, has been canceled, leaving fans eager for more news.
