Dave Portnoy, the owner of Barstool Sports, recently disclosed that Taylor Swift sent him a handwritten letter through her brother, Austin, during her Miami Eras Tour concert on Sunday, October 20. The 47-year-old entrepreneur posted pictures of the heartfelt note on the official Instagram account for his BFFs podcast.
The front of the envelope was adorned with Dave’s name and a shining star, while the back featured her lucky number, 13, as a seal. In her message, Taylor wrote:
“I’m thrilled to see you at the show tonight! Thank you for being consistently supportive and loyal, and for having my back when others didn’t. Hope you enjoy the concert to the fullest!”
She concluded the letter with a heart doodle. The singer of “Dorothea”used her custom “From the Desk of Taylor Swift”notepad, which notably features her title “Songwriter/Feline Enthusiast”.
Following Taylor’s public endorsement of Kamala Harris in September, Dave expressed his thoughts on X on September 11:
“As the king of the Swifties, people are curious about my opinion on her Kamala endorsement. Honestly, I couldn’t care less.”
Portnoy stated that he believes everyone has the right to vote for their chosen candidates, and whether or not someone agrees with him politically does not change his perception of them. He concluded with:
“I’m voting differently, but that’s totally fine for everyone else.”
Dave Portnoy Addresses Claims from a Taylor Swift Fan
While sharing Taylor’s handwritten letter, Dave Portnoy took to Instagram and X to respond to a trending video.
After attending the second night of Taylor Swift’s Miami Eras Tour, many Swifties asked for his review. Portnoy described the experience as “spectacular”and an “amazing night”.
However, despite his enthusiasm, a girl recently went viral for a rant labeling him a “fake Swiftie”and insisting that “Swifties should dislike this guy”. Dave shared a snippet of the TikTok video featuring the girl, known by her username @thatserynsworld, who asserted:
“Dave Portnoy is NOT a genuine Swiftie.”
She speculated why Taylor Nation had allegedly never contacted Dave or his platform and claimed that he had never been given concert tickets by them and had not previously attended a Taylor concert.
@thatserynsworld labeled Dave as a “performative Swifty,”accusing him of taking advantage of the Swiftie fandom for podcast popularity.
In response, Dave held up Taylor’s letter for viewers, stating:
“Let me show you this letter that was hand-delivered to me in the VIP section by Austin Swift, Taylor’s brother.”
He seemed to mock the TikTok user who claimed Taylor harbored animosity towards him, going on to read the note aloud. Dave recounted meeting Taylor’s mother, Andrea, at the concert and sharing a heartfelt moment. Andrea thanked him for his unwavering support of her daughter.
Dave humorously added that he could ban the girl from future Taylor concerts if he wished and emphasized:
“People have differences in politics and worldviews, but being a Swiftie is all about love, support, and being there for Taylor.”
He described the singer’s three and a half hour performances as “unbelievable”and something he would never forget. Portnoy advised the TikTok user to verify her facts before making allegations online.
