WARNING: This article contains spoilers for DC vs. Vampires: World War V #6!
Darkseid Introduced to Earth-63: A Bloodthirsty Universe
Darkseid has made his impactful entrance into Earth-63—a universe besieged by relentless vampires and chaos. Prior to his arrival, Earth’s remaining heroes were embroiled in a harrowing conflict against the Vampire Queen, Barbara Gordon, and her vast army of bloodthirsty creatures. Darkseid’s emergence is poised to escalate the carnage and complicate an already desperate series of events in this Elseworlds narrative.
The implications of Darkseid’s god-like thirst for blood could spell disaster not only for Earth-63 but potentially for the entire multiverse as well.
The Build-Up to Darkseid’s Arrival
In the ongoing storyline crafted by Matthew Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt, DC vs. Vampires: World War V, hints of Darkseid’s impending arrival have been woven into the plot through the introduction of related characters, including Granny Goodness, Mister Miracle, Big Barda, and notably, Darkseid’s granddaughter. These developments have set the stage, intensifying the anticipation among fans leading up to the climactic appearance in issue #6.
Darkseid Encounters the Vampire Queen
As the storyline reaches its peak, DC vs. Vampires: World War V #6 presents a chaotic confrontation between the human resistance and Batgirl’s forces. Amidst this turmoil, Darkseid makes his dramatic entrance, confronting Batgirl and Aquaman, who are overlooking the chaos from a nearby cliff.
Identifying himself as the “Ruler of Apokolips,”Darkseid addresses Batgirl as the “Ruler of Earth,”indicating that this is his initial contact with Earth-63. This sets a tense, unfamiliar dynamic, as his motives become clear.
Darkseid quickly questions them about his granddaughter’s whereabouts, revealing that Granny Goodness brokered a deal with Batgirl regarding the child. The New God’s intentions remain veiled, but the urgency is palpable. Aquaman inadvertently heightens the stakes by admitting to killing both the child and Mister Miracle, prompting Darkseid’s wrath.
The Consequences of Aquaman’s Mistake
Unaware of the gravity of their situation, Aquaman carelessly commands Darkseid to leave their world, boasting about his lethal actions against the very child Darkseid seeks. This folly triggers a furious reaction from the New God, who swiftly retaliates by declaring that he will incinerate the planet if it fails to meet his expectations. In a swift display of his formidable power, Darkseid captures Aquaman and mercilessly crushes him, demonstrating the indisputable extent of his wrath.
The Multiverse at Risk: The Vampire Darkseid Threat
The plight of Earth-63 is dire; the vampire plague has nearly obliterated the human populace, with casualties reminiscent of the apocalyptic devastation depicted in the Deceased storyline. With Darkseid now in the mix, the stakes have exponentially increased. Even the strongest heroes of Prime-Earth face daunting challenges against Darkseid’s overwhelming power. The human survivors on Earth-63 are fractured and depleted, leaving them ill-equipped to withstand both the invasion of the New God and the vampire menace.
More alarming than mere invasion is the potential for Darkseid himself to become a vampire. The indiscriminate nature of the vampire plague is evidenced by the transformation of characters like Mister Miracle into the undead. Should Darkseid fall victim to this curse, his already terrifying abilities would amplify, posing an existential threat to not just Earth-63 but the multiverse as a whole. Given that only one true Darkseid exists across reality, a vampire version of him could wreak unimaginable havoc far beyond the scope of this single world.
Fortunately, the realms of Earth-Prime and the Absolute Universe are insulated from this peril, as they currently stand apart from the multiversal chaos.
