Danielle Collins Clothing Sponsor: From playing Australian Open 2024 without official apparel to winning Miami with one of America’s biggest brands
On Saturday (March 30), Danielle Collins achieved the biggest victory of her career by defeating World No. 4 Elena Ryabakina to win the 2024 Miami Open. Although the American’s first 1000-level title, which occurred during her likely final year on the WTA Tour, is sure to garner attention, her recent fashion choices also deserve recognition.
After turning pro in 2016, Collins quickly secured lucrative sponsorship deals with major brands such as New Balance and Babolat. However, a few years later, she made a decision to switch sponsors. In 2021, she chose not to renew her contract with New Balance and also changed her racquet sponsor from Babolat to Technifibre.
Despite not having a clothing sponsor, Danielle Collins continued to play in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. She arrived at this year’s Australian Open without an apparel sponsor and unfortunately, her campaign ended in the second round at the hands of World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
Since January, a lot has changed for Collins. At the Miami Open, the 30-year-old wore a ‘FP Movement’ dress from Free People, an American retail fashion brand. She expressed her excitement about her new sponsor after winning in the semifinals earlier this week.
“I don’t know. I definitely have a better outfit. I’m loving my new Free People outfit so that’s definitely a plus,”Danielle Collins told Tennis.com. “Then it was a bit harder, I was still balling on a budget… This outfit is my favorite, so I think that’s the biggest difference that I know.”
Following her impressive performance, Collins went on to defeat both fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina and 14th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova with ease in the semifinals and finals, respectively, earning her first-ever WTA 1000 title in Miami.
Despite her victory, the 30-year-old demonstrated that wearing the correct attire can greatly contribute to achieving success.
Danielle Collins Announces Retirement from Professional Tennis in 2024
After her 4-6, 6-3, 4-6 defeat to Iga Swiatek in the second round of the Australian Open, Danielle Collins announced in a press conference that she will retire from professional tennis in 2024.
The American athlete has expressed her excitement for her future “beyond the world of tennis,”including starting a family with her boyfriend.
“This is going to be my last season competing,”she told the media in Melbourne. “I don’t really know exactly when, but this will be my last season and I’m really looking forward to that.”
“I have other things that I’d kind of like to accomplish in my life outside of tennis, and would like to be able to kind of have the time to be able to do that. Obviously having kids is a big priority for me.”
After winning in the quarterfinals of Miami, the 30-year-old revealed more information about the reasons behind her contemplation of retirement.
“I’m living with a chronic inflammatory disease that affects your ability to get pregnant. That’s a deeply personal situation,”she said. “I’ve explained that from time to time. At the end of the day, this is my personal choice. This is so much more than just tennis and my career. I’m enjoying my career. I’m having a lot of fun.”
