During his youth in Kamigoe City, Jin Enjoji lived with his parents and shared a close friendship with Momo Ayase. However, the innocence of his childhood friendships took a significant blow during elementary school.
An unfortunate incident emerged when Momo was subjected to ridicule after her grandmother advised her to partake in public rituals. The Enjoji Family’s Struggles in a Cursed Home
Upon moving to the mountains, Jin was enthusiastic about his new life amidst nature. The Enjoji family had settled into a clean, spacious house, and for a time, Jin reveled in the tranquility and beauty surrounding him. However, this joy was short-lived as he quickly sensed an ominous presence lurking within their home.
As Jin began to experience strange occurrences—unusual sounds and eerie feelings—his anxiety mounted, yet his concerns were dismissed by his parents. The situation escalated when Jin encountered a spirit that had overtaken their house, haunting him relentlessly and invading his dreams.
Desperate to rid his home of the malevolent force, Jin sought the help of various spirit mediums. However, his pleas were met with tragedy; three mediums who attempted to help ended their lives under mysterious circumstances. Left feeling isolated and hopeless, Jin was ultimately directed to Seiko Ayase, who represented his last hope for resolution.
Reunion with Momo Ayase
Enjoji and the Evil Eye Possession
After learning of Jin’s distress, Seiko invited him to her residence, leading to a poignant reunion with Momo Ayase. Their initial awkwardness erupted into a candid conversation, where Jin revealed the terrifying experiences he had endured and admitted to his troubling newfound ability to see spirits.
Burdened by guilt for previously ridiculing Momo, Jin expressed his sincere apologies, allowing the two to mend their fractured relationship. Seiko, recognizing her limitations, tasked Momo with assisting Jin in confronting the ghost in his haunted home.
Joined by Momo and their friend Okarun, Jin set out to investigate their cursed dwelling, uncovering its ties to a colossal earthworm creature known as the Tsuchinoko. With a legacy of sacrifice meant to keep the volcano dormant, the Tsuchinoko proved to be an ever-present threat, wreaking havoc during their efforts.
Through their harrowing journey, Jin learned the tragic backstory of the Evil Eye spirit that haunted him—a once innocent child sacrificed to the Tsuchinoko, filled with bitterness and anger at humanity. Moved by this history, Jin endeavored to find the child’s final resting place. However, those noble intentions turned catastrophic, resulting in his possession by the Evil Eye.
Even after vanquishing the Tsuchinoko, Jin required Momo and her grandmother’s guidance to liberate himself from the clutches of the Evil Eye. Emerging from these trials, he became an essential member of Momo and Okarun’s eccentric group, embarking on a myriad of extraordinary supernatural adventures together.
