The Halloween episode of Dancing with the Stars season 33, aired on Tuesday, October 31, was nothing short of electrifying. Contestants faced their biggest anxieties, and for the first time this season, several pairs walked away with perfect scores of 10.
A thrilling dance-off intended to award bonus points to selected couples brought about some surprising shifts on the leaderboard.
Unfortunately, for contestants Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber, the Halloween challenge proved to be particularly daunting, culminating in their elimination and leaving only six couples in contention for the coveted season 33 mirrorball trophy.
Highlights from Episode 7 of Dancing with the Stars
Chandler and Brandon Claim the Lead
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong consistently dominated the leaderboard, showcasing an eerie Viennese waltz performed to “Secret”by Denmark + Winter. Their impressive routine earned them an overall score of 32, enhanced by bonus points for immunity.
Judge Bruno Tonioli heaped praise on their performance, stating, “The quality of movement was exquisite.” With their strong showing, they secured immunity in the upcoming elimination round, establishing themselves as frontrunners.
Joey and Jenna Shine
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson captivated the judges with their Argentine tango set to “Ramalama (Bang Bang),”achieving a total of 32 points, which included three bonus points from their victory in the jive dance-off against Danny Amendola and Witney Carson.
Bruno lauded Joey’s performance as “hypnotizing,” while Derek Hough noted some instability during lifts. Despite minor feedback, Joey’s dedication to his character solidified his place among the top contenders this season.
Dwight and Daniella Bring the Scares
Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach delivered a haunting contemporary routine inspired by Halloween, featuring “Ring Around the Rosie.”Carrie Ann Inaba awarded them the season’s first perfect score of 10, culminating in a total score of 31, bolstered by points won in the cha-cha dance-off against Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten.
Jenn and Sasha: A Heartfelt Goodbye
Despite achieving their highest score of the season, Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber were eliminated after scoring 31 points for their contemporary dance to “Vampire”by Olivia Rodrigo. Their victory in the salsa dance-off against Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold wasn’t sufficient to keep them in the competition. Jenn expressed deep appreciation for her partner, stating:
“I can’t even imagine my life without Sasha, and we just met seven weeks ago.”
Danny and Witney’s Argentine Tango
The duo of Danny Amendola and Witney Carson performed an Argentine tango to “Poison”by RAVN, scoring 28 out of 30. The judges observed some rigidity, with Derek commenting on Danny’s tendency to “stiffen up” in critical moments of the dance.
Despite the feedback, Danny remains a crowd favorite, just shy of reaching the top of the leaderboard.
Stephen and Rylee’s Contemporary Challenge
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold showcased a dramatic contemporary performance to “I Ran (So Far Away)”by Hidden Citizens, earning a score of 28. Rylee’s choreography effectively highlighted Stephen’s athleticism with a series of expertly executed moves that matched the eerie theme.
Even though they lost a salsa dance-off to Jenn and Sasha, the judges acknowledged Stephen’s growing command over both emotional expression and technical skill.
Ilona and Alan’s Tango
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten performed a tango to “Psycho Killer”by Miley Cyrus, scoring 24 out of 30. While Ilona’s confidence appears to be improving, judges noted she is “running out of time to refine her technique.” The pair did not receive any bonus points in the cha-cha dance-off against Dwight.
As season 33 of Dancing with the Stars enters its final phases, the six remaining couples will have a brief hiatus due to Election Night. They will return on November 12 to celebrate the 500th episode of the series, which will feature the highly anticipated Instant Dance Round—a true test of adaptability and skill.
