In a recent interview with HYPE+ on YouTube (@Comedy Hype), producer, director, and videographer Choke No Joke revealed intriguing insights regarding the fallout between Jay-Z and record executive Dame Dash. According to him, their friendship deteriorated after Dash allegedly made advances toward Jay-Z’s wife, the acclaimed singer Beyoncé. This discussion took place during an upload on October 14.

When queried about whether the amicable ties between the Roc-A-Fella co-founders fractured due to the late artist Aaliyah, Choke No Joke suggested this was just part of the story, stating it was merely “50 percent” of the issue. He accused Dame of “back-dooring” Jay-Z to pursue Aaliyah, who had been Jay’s girlfriend at the time. However, the situation escalated when Dash reportedly aimed his intentions at Beyoncé.

“Dame was trying to holler at Beyoncé too. That really set Jay off. Like, damn man, you took one girl, and now you’re going after this one? I was planning to marry her…” Choke No Joke expressed.

Aaliyah, a talented singer, actress, dancer, and model, was romantically linked to both Jay-Z and Dame Dash in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Choke No Joke recently asserted that their friendship unraveled partly due to Aaliyah. He shared insights about Jay-Z and Aaliyah’s relationship, recalling their appearances together at events like Lil Kim’s album release party around the year 2000.

The documentarian recounted his desire to feature both Jay-Z and Aaliyah together in an interview, but Jay preferred to keep things discreet and suggested individual interviews instead. He indicated that he captured video footage of the event while Johnny Nunez documented still frames, urging listeners to search for images of the couple.

Choke No Joke elaborated that while Jay-Z opted for privacy regarding his relationship with Aaliyah, Dash took advantage of the situation and “got inside her head,” leading her to choose Dash. He went on to claim that after Aaliyah, Dame Dash attempted to pursue Beyoncé, which purportedly crossed a line for Jay-Z, who felt disrespected.

“You [Dame] got away with it once, but now you’re doing it again, and that’s just disrespectful, man… Dame can’t find his own; he’ll just take yours. Trust me, don’t bring your girl around him,” No Joke remarked.

Furthermore, he alleged that Jay-Z wasn’t the only one to experience betrayal at the hands of Dash, as record producer Ski Beatz also allegedly had his girlfriend taken by Dame, who subsequently had a child with her and married her.

Throughout the conversation, Choke No Joke praised Shawn Carter for his strategic decision to marry Beyoncé, noting how it facilitated the “cross-marketing of brands through relationships.” He acknowledged that Jay wouldn’t be where he is today without Queen Bey. Choke also discussed how cautious Jay-Z was during his early relationship with both Aaliyah and Beyoncé, often being “sneaky” until he felt secure.
