“Dam”: D’Angelo Russell reacts to matching rare record held by Steph Curry and Damian Lillard
Upon discovering that he will be joining an exclusive group in the NBA, consisting of only superstars Steph Curry and Damian Lillard, LA Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell expressed his reaction.
As the regular season winds down with just five games remaining, ‘DLo’ has achieved an impressive record of over 200 three-pointers, over 400 assists, and a shooting percentage of over 40% from beyond the arc. This puts him in elite company alongside ‘Chef Curry’ and ‘Dame’, as the only players to accomplish such a feat in a single season.
After defeating the Washington Wizards on Wednesday with a final score of 125-120, Russell’s statistics currently show 212 successful three-pointers made, 448 assists, and a 42.1% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc.
Despite coming close to reaching the milestone last season, he fell just six threes and 0.04% short of achieving it.
Before the game, D’Angelo Russell expressed his amazement and pride upon finding out about the achievement he was about to accomplish. He then went on X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared his excitement by writing:
“Dam. #Blessed”
Despite an interesting season, D’Angelo Russell has been the subject of trade discussions at one point.
Despite facing challenges, he has remained committed and contributed to the success of the LA Lakers, aiding them in their pursuit of a playoff spot.
Throughout this current season, the 28-year-old has been maintaining an average of 18.2 points, 6.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds while playing for 32 minutes per game.
D’Angelo Russell expresses desire to remain a Laker
D’Angelo Russell, who is on track for another consistent NBA season, expressed his desire to remain with the LA Lakers for the foreseeable future if given the chance.
Currently in the initial year of his two-year, $36-million contract signed on July 7, 2023, ‘DLo’ holds a player option for the upcoming season and will have the opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
During a recent interview with HoopsHype, the former NBA All-Star discussed his second stint with the purple and gold and expressed his satisfaction, despite trade rumors surrounding him earlier this season.
According to Russell, he stated:
“I’d love to be here and continue to give it a run and be where my feet are now. Obviously, I’ve been on the other side, and I’ve been through the roller coaster of free agency and having to sit back and wait.”
“I’m looking forward to not having to worry about that. I’ve been blessed enough to put myself in this position with my play,”Russell added. “I’m definitely planning on taking advantage of that. When that time comes, I feel that everything will play out how it’s supposed to play out.”
After being chosen as the second overall pick by the Lakers in the 2015 draft, Russell spent two years with the team before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. It was during his time with the Nets that he achieved All-Star status in 2019.
Following his two-year tenure in Brooklyn, he appeared in 33 games for the Golden State Warriors during the 2019-2020 season. Prior to his return to Los Angeles in the middle of the 2022-23 season, he spent three seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
