The Dallas Mavericks aimed to gain an advantage in the overall record against the Sacramento Kings in their California matchup. After tying in their previous face-off on Tuesday, Dallas sought to take the lead. With the news of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic being cleared to play, the Mavericks were confident in their chances of securing a win as the visiting team.
Despite this, the hosts maintained their dominance over the Mavericks in the first quarter as Harrison Barnes and Keon Ellis consistently outplayed Dallas’ defense with their impressive shots from various spots on the court. As a result, Sacramento held a 34-26 lead after the first 12 minutes.
The Dallas defense improved in the second quarter, allowing only 26 points from Sacramento. However, the visitors’ offense also struggled and added just 25 points to their total. After 24 minutes, the Kings held a 60-51 lead.
In the third quarter, the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings engaged in a closely contested game. Both teams struggled with turnovers, disrupting the flow of the matchup. However, Dereck Lively II’s energetic presence and strong play around the rim provided a boost for the Mavs. Despite this, Sacramento maintained their lead and ended the third quarter with a score of 82-73.
The game quickly became a back-and-forth struggle after Dallas’ 19-10 run in the fourth period, which tied the score. With 3:40 left, Kyrie Irving’s three-pointer gave the Mavericks a 99-98 lead. The visitors responded with a dunk from Daniel Gafford, but Keegan Murray’s triple tied the game once again.
Both teams exchanged multiple missed shots until Dante Exum’s 3-pointer put them ahead 106-103 with 27.5 seconds remaining. De’Aaron Fox missed a 3-pointer, but the Kings managed to secure the offensive rebound. Unfortunately, they then committed a turnover, giving possession back to the Mavs.
Despite Keegan Murray’s missed shot at the buzzer, Luka Doncic’s successful free throw with just over four seconds left secured a 107-104 victory for the Mavericks. Kyrie Irving’s 14 points in the fourth quarter proved to be the crucial factor in Dallas’ comeback over the Kings.
