Mike Pondsmith, the visionary behind the original Cyberpunk universe, recently hinted at exciting developments for the franchise. In a revealing discussion at Digital Dragons 2025, he disclosed that players can expect to explore an entirely new city in addition to the beloved Night City, which many players have thoroughly explored.

During this event, Pondsmith noted, “I’m not as involved directly, but I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had, like ‘this is new Cyberware, what do you think?’ I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place… because there’s another city that we visit, and I’m not telling you anymore than that, but there’s another city that we visit. Night City is still there.”

The Unique Vibe of the New City

He elaborated on the design and atmosphere of this new location, suggesting it offers a distinct aesthetic: “I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner. It feels more like Chicago gone wrong.” This comparison sets the stage for a gritty, unique environment that diverges from traditional cyberpunk tropes.

What Lies Ahead for Cyberpunk Fans

The prospect of exploring both Night City and this new urban landscape is exhilarating for long-time fans and newcomers alike. The potential size of this new city could rival that of Night City, enriching the gameplay and storytelling experience in Project Orion, or whatever the final title may be.
