Cyberpunk 2077 Achieves Major Sales Milestones

Despite facing a controversial launch, CD Projekt RED’s latest RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, has significantly rebounded and now stands as the studio’s second-best-selling game to date, trailing only behind the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3. In their recent financial results announcement, the company revealed that over 30 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have been sold worldwide.

Expansions Also Flourishing

The success is not limited to the base game. The gritty spy-thriller expansion, Phantom Liberty, has soared past 8 million copies sold within just over a year of its release.

“In less than four years since launch, we’ve already recorded 30 million copies sold for Cyberpunk 2077, and Phantom Liberty has surpassed 8 million,”stated Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt. “These remarkable figures reflect the strong and engaged community surrounding our Cyberpunk titles.”

The Future on Apple Silicon

Further expanding its reach, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to make its debut on Apple Silicon devices in 2025, following an announcement made last month by CD Projekt and Apple.

Project Orion: A Sequel in Development

Looking ahead, CD Projekt RED is actively developing a full-fledged sequel to the game, known internally as Project Orion. The sequel is being crafted using Unreal Engine 5 and is supported by a talented team of industry veterans within the CD Projekt RED North America division.

Strong Financial Performance

In line with these successes, CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nielubowicz reported a robust financial quarter, highlighting revenues of 228 million PLN (approximately $55 million). “While Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion continue to thrive, it’s worth noting that The Witcher 3 is also performing strongly,”he added.

Collaboration with Netflix

Moreover, CD Projekt RED is collaborating with Netflix to produce another animated series set in the Cyberpunk universe. However, it remains uncertain whether Studio Trigger, the creators of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, will be involved in this new project.
