Exciting Update: Customizable Action Toolbar in Outlook for Mobile

Microsoft has recently unveiled an exciting feature for Outlook users on Android and iOS, allowing for a customizable action toolbar. This enhancement addresses longstanding concerns regarding the placement of key email actions, which were previously confined to the top-right corner of the screen. With the new update, users can now access essential functions such as deleting, archiving, or marking emails as unread from a more convenient location at the bottom of the screen.

How the New Toolbar Works

Upon opening an email, a newly designed toolbar appears at the bottom of your screen, facilitating easier access to key actions. This toolbar includes options for replying, deleting, and more. Actions that do not fit within the view are accessible via a “More options” button, ensuring that users can still find additional commands without hassle.

Customizing Your Toolbar Layout

To personalize your toolbar, simply tap the “More options”button, followed by selecting Reorder. This feature allows users to drag and drop preferred actions directly onto the main toolbar. Once customized, this layout will remain consistent across all your Outlook accounts, enhancing your overall email experience.

Important Considerations

Although this update brings significant improvements, users should be aware of some quirks. For instance, your customized layout may shift based on your device’s screen size or orientation, leading to certain actions being transferred to an overflow menu if they cannot be displayed. Additionally, users may notice an increase in grayed-out action buttons; Microsoft has indicated that this add-on is deliberate to ensure visibility of options without cluttering the screen.

Availability

This new feature is currently being rolled out to users operating at least Build 4.2522.0 on Android and Build 4.2522 on iOS. If you are using these versions or later, you can look forward to a more tailored email management experience.
