Current Whereabouts of Casey White: Insights into Netflix’s Jailbreak: Love on the Run Subject

Netflix’s newest documentary, Jailbreak: Love on the Run, explores the compelling case of Casey White’s prison escape, orchestrated by Vicky White, a seasoned correctional officer who fell in love with him. The couple sought to flee from prison to embark on a new life together, ultimately becoming the focal point of one of the most publicized manhunts in recent history.

Jailbreak: Love on the Run intricately depicts this fascinating yet tragic story, which culminated in Vicky White’s death following a tumultuous car chase with law enforcement. Casey White, on the other hand, survived the incident and was returned to prison with more charges added to his extensive criminal record. As of now, he remains incarcerated.

This documentary retells their narrative through insights from witnesses and individuals connected to the case. The film’s synopsis states:

“An Alabama corrections officer falls in love with a man awaiting trial for murder and risks it all to help him escape.”

Prior to the escape, Casey White was already awaiting trial for capital murder, and after this incident, he faced additional charges of first-degree prison escape along with being implicated in causing Vicky White’s death.

Who was Casey White and what were his crimes?

Casey White was first incarcerated at Lauderdale County Jail in 2020 while awaiting trial for the murder of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway. Although he initially confessed to the crime, he later retracted his statement, claiming insanity.

This murder case was not his only offense. In addition to facing murder charges, Casey was already sentenced to 75 years in prison for crimes including attempted murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, and unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle.

Additionally, he was reportedly connected to the Alabama-based white supremacist prison gang known as the Southern Brotherhood and had a history of domestic abuse charges dating back to 2017.

He had made one previous escape attempt that was thwarted early on.

Details of Casey’s escape from prison

In 2020, after developing a relationship with Vicky White, the couple engaged in an affair that lasted two years, likely during which they plotted their escape. After suspiciously selling her property at a low price, Vicky declared her retirement from the prison.

On April 29, 2022, she took Casey White out under the guise of getting his mental health assessed in court and fled with him. Initially, no one suspected Vicky due to her impeccable record and long-standing dedication, but alarm bells were raised when authorities discovered there was no court appointment scheduled for that day.

This triggered an 11-day manhunt that ultimately led to Vicky White’s tragic death.

How was Casey White apprehended?

Following their escape, Casey and Vicky were continuously pursued by law enforcement. After receiving multiple tips, police managed to track them down on May 9, 2022. During the chase, the car they were in crashed, which led to Vicky’s death.

Authorities found a wounded Casey White and discovered Vicky with a gunshot wound to the back of her head, which was determined to be self-inflicted.

While Casey was charged with causing Vicky’s death, he was not charged for her actual killing. This was part of a plea deal that saw him accept charges of first-degree prison escape.

Currently, he is incarcerated at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Jefferson County, Alabama, where he is expected to remain until at least 2061, the date of his eligible parole.

Jailbreak: Love on the Run is now available for streaming on Netflix.
