It has been over a week since the last significant leak related to Genshin Impact, a situation that is rather unusual for this action RPG developed by HoYoverse. The current lull in leaks may have a logical explanation. The game is nearing the conclusion of Version 5.3, which introduced the resolution of the Archon Quests located in Natlan, the annual Lantern Rite Festival, and four new playable characters: Lan Yan, Citlali, the Pyro Traveler, and the Pyro Archon, Mavuika.
As preparations ramp up for the imminent arrival of Version 5.4, HoYoverse has confirmed and detailed this patch, set to launch on February 12. Although Version 5.4 is poised to be less impactful in terms of content—with no new main campaign missions and only one new character—excitement remains high. The character Yumemizuki Mizuki is being positioned as a potentially skippable addition, leading players to shift their focus towards the upcoming Version 5.5.
Genshin Impact 5.5 Leaks Are Scaringly Scarce
Absence of New Playable Character Reports

With the upcoming launch of Version 5.4, one would expect leaks about Version 5.5 to emerge at a steady pace. Surprisingly, this has not been the case, as reports of new playable characters remain limited. Currently, there is only speculation about the introduction of previously hinted characters by HoYoverse. Mizuki’s debut in Version 5.4 does leave room for potential newcomers such as Iansan, Dahlia, Ifa, Skirk, Varesa, and the prison girl; however, no concrete evidence has surfaced regarding their release.
Moreover, there has been a noticeable absence of leaks regarding new quests and events in future patches. While there are rumors of a character from Version 5.3 returning in Version 5.5, these claims are largely speculative. One significant leak hints at prerequisite quests needed for Genshin Impact 5.5, raising the possibility of a new Natlan region or at least a World Quest related to Natlan.
Understanding the Scarcity of Genshin Impact Leaks
Version 5.4’s Schedule Shift

An essential aspect of this situation is the alteration in the schedule of the Version 5.4 livestream, which has curtailed the timeframe for leaks. Traditionally, livestreams occur approximately four weeks into a patch. However, the Version 5.4 livestream was unexpectedly pushed forward to January 24, a week ahead of the originally anticipated date of January 31. This early presentation limited the time available for leaks and speculation, as HoYoverse effectively confirmed much of what had been rumored.
As a Chinese company, HoYoverse strategically adjusted the schedule to avoid overlapping with the Chinese New Year celebrations, running from January 29 to February 12.
The scarcity of leaks about Version 5.5 can also be attributed to the sequence of events with Version 5.4. While the evident absence of planned character releases is concerning, the lack of solid leaks is connected to the delayed start of beta testing for Version 5.5. Key and reliable leaks typically arise once beta tests commence, which are set to start next week. Until then, leakers have been unable to gather new information about the upcoming patch.
Generally, the interval of silence between one patch’s conclusion and the start of the next patch’s leaks tends to be shorter. However, considering that the livestream for Version 5.4 was moved up by a week, the current extended period without leaks feels unusual. It may appear as if HoYoverse has successfully managed to reduce leaks. Fortunately, players won’t have to wait long before more information regarding Genshin Impact 5.5 begins emerging.
Insights on Genshin Impact 5.5 (Based on Current Leaks)
Potential Return to Natlan in the Upcoming Update

Despite the lack of substantial leaks for Version 5.5, some rumors offer a glimmer of hope. Among these is the mention of prerequisite quests that players must complete to access new missions. Leaks suggest that players will need to embark on two key World Quest series located in Natlan to explore new content. The new quests included in Version 5.5 are likely to remain within the fiery nation of Pyro.
While there are no indications of new areas being added to Natlan in Version 5.5, it is important to note that the Collective of Plenty tribe has yet to be included in the region’s map. Integrating this final tribe is essential to complete the regional reputation. There are also whispers about the long-anticipated introduction of the Great Volcano of Tollan, which could play a significant role in the patch, especially considering its lore relevance and connection to potential returning NPCs from Genshin Impact 5.3.
In addition to the above insights, HoYoverse has confirmed plans to enhance the Artifacts system in Version 5.5. When crafting Artifacts with Self-Modeling Resin, players can expect that the selected sub-stats will be improved at least twice during the leveling process. While not a comprehensive solution to the existing issues with Artifacts, this update represents a considerable upgrade since the introduction of the crafting system.
Although there remains much to uncover regarding Version 5.5, the anticipated upcoming leaks and insights should become clearer as Genshin Impact transitions through Version 5.4 and into the beta testing phase for Version 5.5. Players can expect to learn more about new characters, team compositions, and upcoming story quests and events shortly.
