In 2023, during a State of the Press announcement by Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press, details emerged about Daggerheart. This new game features a unique d12-based mechanics and introduces an original card-based progression system, paired with the intriguing Hope and Fear mechanic. Over the course of two years, the development team conducted numerous playtests, including sessions during popular conventions such as GenCon and various one-shots featured on the Critical Role channel.

The standard Daggerheart Core Set, priced at $60, includes a 300-page hardcover rulebook and 279 character customization cards, along with a PDF of the rules. For those seeking a more premium experience, the $150 limited edition offers alternate cover art, a Game Master screen, a complete dice set, tokens, and additional goodies. Digital editions can be obtained for $35 via Demiplane, or bundled for $45 through Nexus and DriveThruRPG, which includes print-and-play versions of the game’s cards.
