Cristo Fernández Shares How Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Helps Him Achieve His Acting Dream Inspired by Comedy Hero Jim Carrey

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Highlights Cristo Fernández’s Dual Role

In the latest installment of the franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Jim Carrey showcases his comedic prowess by portraying two different characters. However, he is not the only actor taking on multiple roles. Cristo Fernández also brings to life twin brothers Pablo and Juan, featured in the fictional telenovela La Última Pasión. As Ivo Robotnik faces a downturn following the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, his obsession with this soap opera becomes apparent.

Though audiences may only catch a glimpse of Cristo Fernández on Robotnik’s television, his impact resonates throughout the film. Fans are buzzing with excitement about his characters, eager to learn more about the actor behind the twins. Outside the realm of Sonic, Fernández is celebrated for his role as Dani Rojas in the hit series, Ted Lasso.

Insights from Cristo Fernández on His Role

In an interview with ScreenRant, Fernández shares his thoughts on embodying two characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the joy of having his name alongside his idols in the industry. He also expresses a desire to reprise his role as Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso and hopes that his bartender character from Venom: The Last Dance and Spider-Man: No Way Home could return with superpowers in the Marvel Universe.

Jim Carrey: A Comedic Influence

“I haven’t met him in person. I hope my work in Sonic manifests that I will meet him soon enough.”

ScreenRant: How did you feel upon learning you’d be joining the Sonic universe?

Cristo Fernández: Learning of my role was incredibly special. As a child, I played Sonic games on my Super Nintendo—my favorite among them. My mother often recalls how I would roll around pretending to be Sonic. Interestingly, I also styled my hair in spikes, likely inspired by him. Sonic has played a significant role in my childhood, and Jim Carrey is a major comedic influence for me. While I haven’t met him yet, it’s meaningful to know he recognizes my work.

Playing Dual Roles

Cristo Fernández: Yes, playing two characters is a connection we share. Portraying an evil twin was a delightful challenge. I’m grateful to director Jeff Fowler, who encouraged us to infuse humor and absurdity into the scenes. Working alongside Sofia Pernas, who played Gabriela, made it even better—she’s a vital part of the novella’s charm.

Fan Reactions to Fernández’s Characters

“I am grateful how the fans have reacted, even though my appearance is so small.”

Given your role in the Sonic universe, would you be open to returning for Sonic 4?

Cristo Fernández: Absolutely! I’m thankful for the positive fan reaction, even with such a brief appearance. It’s heartening to know fans want to explore more about Juan and Pablo—and their stories in La Última Pasión. Telenovelas hold significant cultural value; they’ve shaped many lives, including mine as a Mexican. It’s exciting to finally have a role in one after numerous auditions over the years.

Expanding the Narrative

Cristo Fernández: I think creating more content around these characters would be fantastic. As fans are expressing interest, we should pitch it!

A Fondness for Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso

“Ted Lasso has meant so much to me, not only as an actor but for the positive message it spreads.”

With a new season of Ted Lasso on the horizon, do you think we could see Dani Rojas again?

Cristo Fernández: I would love to reprise my role as Dani. Recently, I even filmed a brief campaign for State Farm as Dani Rojas alongside Patrick Mahomes. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities Ted Lasso has provided me. The phrase “Football is life”resonates deeply with fans, including myself.

My ongoing projects include developing a film company, Spectrum X Films, alongside my sister, which aims to inspire audiences similarly. I hope to continue my journey with Ted Lasso and bring more of Dani to the screen.

Lessons from Playing Dani

Cristo Fernández: Playing Dani has taught me that life is multifaceted and can be both challenging and joyful. It’s essential to understand your motivations while maintaining that childlike passion, much like Dani does in every game. Even when stressed, remembering the reasons behind my pursuits keeps me grounded.

Wishing for a Marvel Twist

“I hope the barman becomes a super barman and makes super cocktails.”

Did you portray different versions of a bartender in various Marvel films?

Cristo Fernández: Correct! I’m thankful to the directors and producers for allowing me to be part of these major franchises, especially working with Tom Hardy. Being represented in these universes feels surreal—not just for me but for my culture. I hope to see my character evolve, potentially becoming a “super barman”with extraordinary skills.
