Cris Cyborg’s next fight date, venue, and opponent revealed – and it is not PFL’s Larissa Pachecho
On 27 April, Cris Cyborg will step out of the cage and into the boxing ring. She will be the main event at Green Bay Fight Night, held at The Watering Hole in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Bellator featherweight champion will take on Widnelly Figueroa.
The upcoming 154-pound match will be Cyborg’s second professional boxing fight of the year, with a two-round bout using 10-ounce gloves. In her first fight of the year, she defeated Kelsey Wickstrum in just 81 seconds. Meanwhile, Figueroa will be making his return to the ring after a hiatus since 2017.
Despite originally wanting to face off against Larissa Pacheco in an MMA bout this June, Cyborg’s plans changed due to limited scheduling availability and she instead opted for a boxing match.
The Brazilian expressed her thoughts about her upcoming fight in a statement initially shared on MMA Junkie.
“I was hopeful to be fighting (Larissa) Pachecho in June, which gave me limited dates to pursue a Boxing fight. Figueroa is a tough opponent who has been in the ring with Boxing Olympians with a lot more experience than me. I have been training hard and am hoping to continue showing the improvements I am making in my Boxing skills… I’m working on my boxing techniques so that I am going to be able to deliver the type of fight-ending finishes fans want to see. I’m looking to bring excitement to Women’s Boxing like I’ve done in WMMA.”
Despite PFL’s acquisition of Bellator, Cyborg’s search for an MMA fight continues. She successfully defended her Bellator featherweight title five times and was ready for a champion vs. champion showdown with PFL’s champion Pacheco. However, the highly anticipated fight has yet to materialize for Cyborg.
Cris Cyborg responds to Ronda Rousey’s concussion revelation with mocking tweet
The ongoing rivalry between MMA fighters Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey shows no signs of fading. In a recent interview, Rousey discussed the challenges she faced with concussions during her time in the sport, but her remarks about her defeat against Holly Holm elicited a strong reaction from Cyborg.
Former UFC and WWE champion Rousey has been making several media appearances to openly discuss her past struggles with concussions, a topic she had never addressed before. During one particular interview, she made bold statements that garnered attention from various individuals, including Cyborg.
The tension arose when Rousey made a comment about her unexpected loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, saying:
“I literally came into that fight concussed from slipping down some stairs already after all of these years of concussions. Then I had an absolutely terrible weight cut… I was out on my feet for the entire fight… But I know that, like, I’m the greatest fighter that has ever lived…”
Despite Rousey’s explanation, Cyborg, the ex-UFC featherweight champion, remained doubtful. She took to social media and quote-tweeted a segment of the interview, including her own harsh remarks. In her post, Cyborg stated:
“Poor girl still suffering from CTE, I hope she finally got a good mouth guard.”
