Creature Commandos is nearing the end of its inaugural season, and creator James Gunn is embracing a trend popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe—introducing a post-credits scene in the season finale.
Launched on December 5, Creature Commandos marked the commencement of the new DC Universe with an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This animated series, centered on Amanda Waller’s monstrous version of the Suicide Squad, features a weekly episode rollout and has already received a renewal for a second season. Currently, the show has released five episodes, with the concluding Episode 6 and Episode 7 set to air on January 2 and 9, respectively. The initial episodes did not contain any post-credits scenes, instead, they hinted at lingering cliffhangers within their approximately twenty-minute lengths. However, fans can expect a shift in this approach during the finale.
James Gunn Confirms Post-Credits Scene for Creature Commandos
In response to a fan inquiry on Threads regarding the inclusion of a post-credits scene in Creature Commandos, Gunn confirmed: “The season finale will, yes.” This will mark the first post-credits scene in the newly established DC Universe.
Though post-credits scenes are commonly linked to the Marvel franchise, various previous DC ventures—particularly those under the now-defunct Zack Snyder-led DC Extended Universe—also incorporated such scenes. Films like Suicide Squad, Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam!, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Black Adam, along with Gunn’s own The Suicide Squad, featured post- or mid-credits moments that teased future projects, many of which did not materialize.
The anticipated post-credits scene in the season finale of Creature Commandos could unfold in one of two ways: it might provide standalone enjoyment for viewers or, reminiscent of MCU’s approach, set the stage for the confirmed second season. Considering Gunn’s previous remarks that the Superman film will include a lighthearted post-credits scene rather than one leading to future developments, it seems likely that a similar strategy will be employed here. The director likely wants to avoid creating narrative threads that lead to dead ends.
Fan speculation regarding what could appear in the post-credits scene is already ramping up, especially as the series has been loaded with references to broader DC lore. Notable nods include the all-female island of Themyscira, the presence of Gorilla Grodd, the Galaxy Broadcasting System in Metropolis, and even a reference to Shaggy from Scooby-Doo’s Mystery Inc.. Some fans are theorizing that the scene could imply the return of the Tin Man, while others suggest it might connect to David Corenswet’s Man of Steel or other confirmed heroes in the upcoming Superman film. Discussions and predictions are sure to intensify as the finale date approaches, set for January 9.
Creature Commandos made its debut on December 5, with the first five episodes currently available for streaming on Max.
