To begin your crop-growing journey, you must first create farmland—a specialized version of a dirt block designed for planting seeds.

How to Create Farmland in Minecraft

Establishing farmland is one of the simplest tasks you can undertake in the game. Keep in mind that you can transform any standard grass or dirt block into farmland. The only tool required for this transformation is a hoe. You can initiate your farming adventure even in the early game, as even a basic wooden hoe is sufficient to convert a dirt or grass block into farmland.

Once you’ve crafted your hoe, equip it in your right hand and right-click on any grass or dirt block to convert it into farmland. Farmland represents tilled and fertile ground suitable for planting crops.

Following this, convert adjacent grass blocks into farmland. Eventually, you’ll observe that the color of the farmland shifts to dark brown, indicating it has been properly watered.

A single water block can hydrate farmland within a four-block radius, including diagonally. Thus, you can create a farming area measuring eight blocks by eight blocks around that one water source, ensuring all of it is optimally fertile for growing crops.

While planting seeds and harvesting your crops, be cautious not to run over the farmland, as doing so will revert it to a regular dirt block.
