New Copilot Feature in PowerPoint: Streamline Slide Creation

Recently, Microsoft unveiled an innovative feature for Copilot in PowerPoint for Windows. This feature enables users to efficiently generate a presentation slide using a document along with a prompt, ultimately saving valuable time in the presentation creation process. This guide will walk you through the steps to utilize this exciting new functionality.

Availability and Requirements

It is important to note that this feature is exclusively accessible to users of PowerPoint for Windows who possess a Copilot license and are operating on Version 2502 (Build 18526.20144).Currently, the feature supports only English (US), with additional language options expected to be available soon.

How to Create a Slide with Copilot

To begin, launch PowerPoint on a Windows device and open an existing presentation. Look for the Copilot button located above your slide, then click ‘Add a slide’.

Crafting Your Prompt

Once you have selected the option to create a new slide, you will be prompted to describe the content for your slide. You can further enhance your slide by uploading a reference document using the ‘Reference a file’ button. If you’re unsure about what to input, Microsoft offers various prompt suggestions to inspire you.

For users referencing extensive documents, you may direct Copilot to focus on specific sections or topics. When constructing your prompt, aim for clarity and brevity, focusing on one or two key points to optimize the generated slide.

Finalizing Your Slide

After you’re satisfied with your prompt, click on the Send arrow located in the lower right corner. Copilot will then generate a draft slide for your review. You can make edits, request Copilot to rewrite certain text, or initiate a new prompt if you wish to create a different slide.

Limitations and Further Information

Prior to this improvement, the creation of slides was limited to interactions via Copilot chat. The new feature offers a more integrated and user-friendly experience. However, it is important to keep in mind a current limitation: Copilot cannot accommodate prompts that request specific formatting such as fonts, colors, backgrounds, or images.
