Google Introduces Custom Video Generation in Google Vids with Veo 2
Google has unveiled an exciting new feature in Google Vids, their AI-driven video creation tool within Google Workspace. Users can now craft custom video clips effortlessly, thanks to the integration of Google DeepMind’s advanced Veo 2 AI model. This innovation simplifies the process of incorporating distinctive visual elements into workplace videos, eliminating the need for third-party tools or extensive searches for stock footage.
Understanding Veo 2: Google’s Advanced AI Model
Launched in April of the previous year, Veo is Google’s cutting-edge generative AI model designed specifically for video production. In comparison to other models, such as OpenAI’s Sora, Veo 2 has garnered attention for its ability to produce exceptionally realistic videos. It excels in rendering physical lifelikeness and offers enhanced control over cinematic aspects. The model can generate clips lasting up to two minutes or longer while delivering high-resolution outputs.
How to Create Custom Clips in Vids
Creating a custom video clip in the Vids editor is user-friendly. Simply locate the “Generate video” icon in the right sidebar. By entering a description in the prompt box and clicking “Create, ” you can generate a preview. If satisfied, select “Insert” to integrate the clip into your project.
Key Parameters for Generated Clips
It’s essential to note that the Veo 2 integration in Vids has specific limitations. Currently, generated clips are rendered at 720p resolution, operate at 24 frames per second (FPS), and adhere to a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Additionally, each clip is capped at a maximum duration of 8 seconds.
Access and Eligibility for the New Feature
This new clip generation feature comes at no extra cost for users subscribed to eligible plans. A gradual rollout is underway for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with a complete rollout anticipated within the next two weeks. Most Google Workspace paid plans will have access, including:
- Business Standard
- Business Plus
- Enterprise Standard
- Enterprise Plus
- Essentials
- Enterprise Essentials
- Enterprise Essentials Plus
- Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons
Additionally, customers subscribed to Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, or Nonprofit plans can utilize generative AI features in Vids until at least May 31, 2026, although limitations apply.
Current Limitations and Considerations
At present, the video creation and editing functionalities, including clip generation, are restricted to desktop web browsers. Furthermore, while Vids accommodates various languages, the generative AI functionality is currently limited to English prompts.
