Create Light Presets in the Google Home App Soon

If you own multiple smart home gadgets, you’re probably managing them through the Google Home app on your Android smartphone or tablet. Despite its popularity, the app has some shortcomings and lacks a number of useful functionalities.

While you can control your smart home devices, make basic toggles, and establish automation routines, switching between different presets isn’t straightforward. Fortunately, an upcoming update may soon enhance this situation within the Google Home Android app.

A recent APK Teardown of the Google Home app revealed various code strings that indicate users may soon have the ability to save their preferred color and brightness levels as presets, allowing for quick changes with a single tap. Here are some of the relevant code snippets:

These coded strings were identified in the Google Home app version 3.24.1.4. Based on this information, users could create multiple presets with distinct brightness settings for various colors. As highlighted by Android Authority, these presets might also be operable through voice commands and could integrate with automation features.

One of the strings indicates that each preset can be assigned a unique name, which would help users easily differentiate between various presets. However, there is currently no information on the maximum number of light presets a user may create. At this stage, these features are not accessible to the average user, but the Google Home light presets functionality is anticipated to be released in a future update.

Moreover, the Google Home app was also noted to be developing a new feature designed to assist users in quickly locating specific smart home devices. Currently, users are required to scroll through a list of devices in the Devices tab to find what they need. With the planned updates, users might soon benefit from a dedicated search bar for highly efficient navigation.
