Cowboys fans have mixed feelings on potential Ezekiel Elliott reunion: “It would be beyond stupid” “He will COOK”
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is mutual interest between the Dallas Cowboys and free agent Ezekiel Elliott in reuniting. While no agreement has been reached yet, both parties are open to negotiating a deal.
Despite Rhamondre Stevenson’s injury, Elliott proved to be a valuable asset to the New England Patriots during the 2023 NFL season as a 3X Pro Bowl running back and work horse for the team.
Elliott’s season concluded with a total of 642 yards on 184 rushing attempts and three touchdowns, as well as 313 receiving yards on 51 catches and two touchdowns.
The recent news of a possible reunion spread on social media, causing a variety of responses from fans. Many expressed concern about his decrease in productivity in recent years.
A fan left a comment:
Oh wow he’s cooked like an Easter ham
Another fan expressed surprise at the mutual interest, particularly given the organization’s decision to release Elliott due to his lack of productivity:
Just don’t understand a thing this organization is doing those off-season. Cowboys let Zeke go two years ago because there was no tread on the tires. Now they want to bring him back? Nuts!
Ezekiel Elliott was selected by the Cowboys as the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons with the team and, during his first three years in the NFL, he led the league in rushing for two of those seasons.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Elliott has accumulated a total of 8,904 rushing yards and 71 rushing touchdowns, in addition to 356 catches, 2,649 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns.
Cowboys’ Offseason Struggles Highlighted by Possible Ezekiel Elliott Reunion
Despite the possibility of a reunion with Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys have reached this point thanks to their underwhelming and disappointing free agency, despite Jerry Jones’ promise to go all in.
Despite being heavily linked to Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley during the free agency period, the Cowboys’ lack of urgency resulted in both star running backs ultimately signing with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively – two prominent AFC teams and divisional rivals of the Cowboys.
In addition, the Cowboys suffered numerous losses of key players during the 2024 NFL free agency and only made one signing – linebacker Eric Kendricks – in an effort to bolster their roster.
Despite the presence of Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, Deuce Vaughn, and Snoop Corner, the team’s current running back room may not strike fear in their rival teams. Even the potential reunion with Ezekiel Elliot may not significantly impact the Cowboys’ strategy of addressing roster needs through the 2024 NFL draft.
