Coroner Season 5 Unlikely as Major Cast Departures Indicate Series Conclusion

Fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Coroner season 5, following the conclusion of the fourth season on April 7, 2022, which comprised 12 episodes. This acclaimed CBC police drama, crafted by Morwyn Brebar, draws inspiration from the Jenny Cooper novels penned by British author M.R. Hall.

Coroner debuted on CBC on January 7, 2019, and continued for three seasons until 2022. The network greenlit the fourth season, which premiered on January 6, 2022.

According to a TV Line report dated August 23, 2023, Sally Catto, General Manager of CBC Entertainment, announced that Serinda Swan, who portrays the lead character Dr. Jenny Cooper, has decided to exit the show. Given this latest development, it appears that the prospects for Coroner season 5 are dim.

Serinda Swan Will Not Return for Season 5 of Coroner

In the television series Coroner, Serinda Swan embodies the primary character, Dr. Jenny Cooper. Once an ER doctor, she relocated to Toronto to take on the role of coroner. Jenny is portrayed as a widow grappling with the emotional scars left by the tragic death of her husband, Dr. David Kalighi.

Struggling with PTSD and burdened by significant debt left by her late partner, Jenny is determined to rebuild her life alongside her teenage son. As she uncovers a series of puzzling deaths throughout the city, she delves into the evidence to uncover the individuals responsible.

“Serinda Swan has opted to leave the series to pursue new creative endeavors like directing. We are currently in discussions with the producers regarding the next steps following her departure. We respect Serinda’s choice to embark on a new creative journey and appreciate her commitment to portraying Dr. Jenny Cooper.”

As of now, CBC has not confirmed any potential revival for Coroner season 5. A reporter from CBC stated that Serinda Swan is seeking new creative projects, including her role as director in episode 6 of season 4, titled Young Legend, which aired on March 3, 2022.

Serinda Swan is well-known for her portrayal of Medusa in Marvel’s Inhumans in 2017. Recently, she appears as Karla Dixon in the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher.
