Core Stats Explained in Hyper Light Breaker: Their Functions and Importance

Core Stats Explained in Hyper Light Breaker: Their Functions and Importance

The characters in Hyper Light Breaker each possess distinct statistical attributes, enhancing their suitability for various builds and playstyles. While some statistics, such as Armor, are straightforward—indicating the level of intrinsic damage resistance—others, like OPS, can leave players scratching their heads. Unfortunately, the game currently lacks in-depth explanations for some of these stats.

To access a character’s statistics, players can press “Esc”in the Outpost, which opens the loadout menu. This menu displays all equipped gear and offers the ability to modify loadouts, including accessing the SyCom where the stats are located. Notably, the stats are linked to each character’s SyCom rather than the character directly, and the SyCom also provides a unique passive ability.

What Are Core Stats?

In Hyper Light Breaker, there are nine Core Stats that fundamentally shape character performance and gameplay. The following table outlines these core stats along with their effects:

Stat

Effect

HP

Indicates total health before armor and Holobyte modifiers.

BATT

Determines the maximum Battery capacity for the character’s Rail.

ARMOR

Measures initial damage resistance before armor or Holobyte effects.

STRIKE

Defines melee damage output with a Blade before additional modifiers.

BLAST

Specifies ranged damage output with a Rail, prior to other effects.

STAM

Indicates the number of dashes available to a character.

CRIT CHANCE %

Estimates the likelihood of landing a critical hit before modifiers.

CRIT DMG %

Specifies the damage increase percentage for critical hits, before any additional modifiers.

OPS

Affects gear drop rarity and level, while also influencing weapon damage.

While many of these stats are intuitive for seasoned gamers, the meanings of Strike and Blast might initially confuse some players. However, as players immerse themselves in the game, their functions typically become clear. The most enigmatic stat remains OPS, which continues to baffle many.

Utilizing Holobytes that complement the equipped SyCom is advisable. Understanding base statistics will guide players in crafting optimal builds. Each weapon in Breaker does not have fixed damage values; rather, it operates within a range. A character with a higher OPS is more likely to achieve elevated damage outputs within that range. While this doesn’t guarantee a damage increase, OPS appears to enhance players’ luck marginally.

Currently, there’s no clear insight on how OPS is calculated behind the scenes. Unlike Crit Chance, which is expressed as a percentage, OPS is simply represented as an integer. This could draw parallels to Risk of Rain 2’s “57 Leaf Clover,”where chance-related events are potentially re-rolled based on a character’s OPS value. However, this remains speculative, leaving players to operate under the assumption that higher OPS translates to better luck.

Core stats serve as the bedrock of a character, fundamentally shaping their gameplay style. For example, Goro’s statistics are optimized for high-crit, Rail-centered play, while Vermillion can adapt to either Rail-heavy or more durable builds based on the equipped SyCom.

In general, players can use base stats as a reference for identifying beneficial Holobytes throughout their journey. Although it’s possible to stray from a character’s niche, aligning builds with the strengths of the SyCom typically yields better results. While every character is versatile, core stats influence how naturally players can harness that versatility.

Moreover, many of these core stats can be upgraded, allowing characters to evolve into more powerful entities as players progress. The upgrade potential of each stat varies depending on both the character and their SyCom. For instance, Lapis’ Warrior SyCom boasts an exceptional upgrade capacity, making her an ideal choice for players seeking a robust fighter to conquer the formidable challenges presented in Hyper Light Breaker.
