Copilot Vision is now available on Windows with text input feature

Exciting Features Arrive for Windows 11 Users

The recent launch of the redesigned Start menu, included in the October 2025 non-security update, has garnered considerable attention among Windows 11 users. Furthermore, Microsoft has announced a significant enhancement for artificial intelligence enthusiasts with the introduction of text input capabilities for Copilot Vision.

Introducing Text Input Mode for Copilot Vision

Earlier this month, Microsoft revealed these improvements to Copilot, unveiling text input mode. Previously, Copilot Vision was limited to voice commands, making it inaccessible to users without microphones. With this latest update, users can instruct Copilot Vision using their keyboard, making interaction easier and more versatile—whether you’re in a quiet environment or simply prefer typing.

How Text Mode Works

In this new text input mode, Copilot does not provide vocal responses; instead, it communicates via text. This approach aligns with the familiar interaction methods used for ChatGPT and other large language models, enhancing user experience by eliminating the need for voice input altogether.

Getting Started with Copilot Vision Text Input

Activating the text mode in Copilot Vision is straightforward. Users should click on the glasses icon, disable the “Start with Voice”option, and select the desired app or screen to share with Copilot. The applications being shared will be highlighted with a colorful glow, and any responses will appear within the same chat window. For those times when voice interaction is preferred, users can seamlessly switch back to voice mode by clicking the microphone button.

Limitations of Text Mode

While the text mode offers an excellent alternative to voice input, it currently lacks the highlight feature. This tool, which enables Copilot to visually point out specific components within the shared application, remains unavailable in text mode, potentially limiting its functionality for certain tasks.

Availability and Rollout

The text input mode for Copilot Vision is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders across all channels with the app version 1.25103.107. As with many software rollouts, this update will happen gradually, which means some users may receive it sooner than others.
