Recent leaks indicate that ZOTAC is opting out of the 12-pin power connector for its upcoming RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards, instead utilizing a more conventional setup.

Confirmed Specifications for ZOTAC’s RTX 5060 Ti Series: AMP, Twin Edge, and Twin Edge OC

In a reassuring move for gamers and PC builders, the new RTX 5060 lineup will be equipped with a single 8-pin PCI-E power connector. This decision helps avoid the overheating issues previously witnessed in NVIDIA’s 12-pin connectors associated with higher-end models like the RTX 5090 and 5080. The RTX 5060 cards operate efficiently below 200W, making them less power-intensive compared to their 70-class counterparts.

Set to deliver a performance of 180W, the RTX 5060 Ti will feature a single 8-pin PCI-E connector, as confirmed by leaked images. ZOTAC is preparing six different models of the RTX 5060 Ti, including three configurations for the 8 GB variant and three for the 16 GB model. Interestingly, even ZOTAC’s premium AMP edition displays the 8-pin power connector, along with the Twin Edge and Twin Edge OC models.

The specifications sheet further substantiates this, revealing details such as the Twin Edge OC’s impressive boost clock speed of 2602 MHz. The 8-pin PCI-E connector is noteworthy for its reliability; it efficiently distributes power without the risks associated with the 12-pin connectors, which can experience melting due to design flaws. Such flaws often arise when one wire is tasked with handling the entire load, especially if the connector isn’t securely fastened.

The design of the 8-pin power connector is advantageous: it disconnects power entirely if any wire is severed, ensuring load balance across all wires. With the RTX 5060 Ti requiring approximately 180W, the combination of a single 8-pin connector and the PCI-E x16 slot—capable of delivering an additional 75W—provides ample power for its operation. This setup allows peak power delivery of 225W, covering even overclocking needs.

In comparison, the RTX 4060 series also utilized the 8-pin connector while offering greater power efficiency. As for other manufacturers’ versions of the RTX 5060 Ti, there is a possibility some may incorporate dual 8-pin connectors for enhanced overclocking capabilities. However, this remains unconfirmed at this stage. It is preferred that no manufacturer adopts the 12-pin connector for this GPU, as the current configuration suffices.
