Comprehensive Tarkov Guide: Tips for Escaping From Tarkov

In the world of Escape From Tarkov, few traders are as unconventional as Jaeger. Introduced by Mechanic, your initial task involves a rather mundane trip for field rations, instant noodles, and canned beef stew—an ironic assignment for a seasoned combat veteran.

Once you finish catering to his needs, Jaeger presents a new challenge: to traverse a minefield, naturally, for educational purposes. He warns that Tarkov is strewn with live explosives that can swiftly send you back to the stash (a euphemism for death) if you’re not vigilant. He whimsically mentions his acquaintance, Partisan, a war veteran who copes with his trauma by booby-trapping the city.

The Rough Tarkov quest takes players to the Woods map and specifically to Ground Zero, all in the name of “learning to recognize mortal danger.”This quest is essential if you aspire to unlock the Tripwire Installation Kit, available for purchase from Jaeger even at Level 1.

Locate the Heavily Mined Area on Woods

Your first task in the Rough Tarkov quest is to identify a heavily mined area in the Woods. As is often the case in Escape From Tarkov, this mission’s instructions can be somewhat vague, as the borders of nearly all maps are hazardous minefields.

Jaeger’s target is the minefield located on the western side of the USEC camp. If you’ve previously completed the Search Mission for Prapor, you may already be familiar with this area.

This camp is situated in the northwestern section of the Woods map, and the most effective way to navigate it is by following the power lines running northeast to southwest.

The camp’s entrance is marked by a blue dumpster near a transmission tower. Instead of venturing directly into the USEC camp, you should move north along the hillside. Jaeger’s instructions imply that you will soon be surrounded by a minefield, a pursuit that doesn’t typically correlate with longevity.

Proceed at a cautious pace until you receive the audio cue indicating that you have completed the Woods subtask for Rough Tarkov. Be prepared, as the USEC camp is a treacherous spot for both PvP and PvE encounters, so anticipate hostilities with PMCs and scavengers while you navigate the mines.

If the area is crowded, consider approaching from the north along the map border to access it from the west through the woods. However, bear in mind that engaging in combat in this location might confine you between two minefields.

Locate the Claymore Mine on Ground Zero

Before diving into this task, it’s crucial to clarify: the device you’re looking for is not a Claymore but a Soviet MON-50. Although they may appear similar, a Claymore is generally command-detonated, whereas the MON-50 operates with seismic proximity sensors. Approaching it recklessly can lead to dire consequences.

The second objective is hidden within the Empire building. You can access it from the north if you come from the TerraGroup headquarters or from the west via the main street crossing Ground Zero.

Upon entering, proceed to the southern end of the building. You’ll encounter broken elevators alongside a sign reading “Keep Out.”But as a savvy operator on a quest to find mines, you can disregard this warning.

Continue down the corridor past a dramatic warning in Russian, then take a right where three doors await. The first two doors are safe, and the second door is locked but can be opened with the Unity Credit Bank cash register key, revealing a filing cabinet and a locked safe.

The open door at the end of the corridor conceals the explosive that Jaeger tasked you with inspecting. Unlike the landmines in the Woods, this mine at Ground Zero will result in instant death—no second chances.

Reduce your speed to a minimum and move cautiously until the quest registers as complete. Exercise extreme caution while exiting to avoid straying into the mine’s triggering zone.

This objective is somewhat less exposed than the USEC camp minefield, and as long as you remain inside the building, you should be safe. If you feel uncertain, consider waiting a few minutes before heading to the target area to allow the chaos near the car extract to subside. The restaurant across the street offers a strategic vantage point, enabling you to observe the area from the second floor and make your move when the coast is clear.

Rough Tarkov Quest Rewards

Upon successfully completing the Rough Tarkov quest, you will be rewarded with 60, 000 roubles, two Tripwire Installation Kits, a modest increase of 0.01 Jaeger reputation, and 4, 400 experience points.

The primary benefit of finishing this quest is that it unlocks the “Every Hunter Knows This”quest, which allows you to purchase tripwire kits from Jaeger for approximately 24, 000 roubles each.
