As you embark on your journey in Path of Exile 2, you’ll encounter a vast array of currencies including Orbs, Scraps, Whetstones, Baubles, Etchers, Prisms, Mirrors, and Shards. Each currency serves a unique purpose, aiding you in various tasks such as enhancing your character, upgrading your equipment, progressing through the storyline, and much more.
However, it’s common to accumulate an excess of one currency type while lacking others that are essential for your progression. This imbalance often leads to tedious grinding to obtain your desired currency. Fortunately, the game features a user-friendly and completely legitimate currency exchange system that can alleviate this issue.
Unlocking the Currency Exchange
Complete the Game (and then some)
To access the Currency Exchange, you first need to complete the early access version of the game on Standard mode and then advance to Cruel difficulty. This transition occurs automatically after you complete Act Three for the first time. Note that the process may be altered in the full release of the game, which is expected to include additional acts that will extend your playtime.
Locating the Correct NPC
Upon starting your journey in Cruel mode, you can unlock the Currency Exchange by interacting with the item merchant NPC found in any town. In the Clearfell Encampment, for instance, you’ll meet Finn. Currency Exchange options will be available in every settlement, including your Hideout.
Understanding PoE 2 Currency Exchange Rates
Interpreting the Market Ratio
Once you’ve accessed the Currency Exchange, interacting with the merchant in any town will bring up a menu showcasing various currencies. You’ll select the currency you wish to acquire from the “I want”menu and specify what you’re willing to trade for it from the “I have”menu. This interface allows you to view ongoing trade orders from other players that meet your criteria or to create your own order.
At the top of this interface, you will see a “Market Ratio”indicator, which reflects the average exchange rate for the selected currencies, derived from recent player transactions. For those who prefer not to check external sites for this information, we have provided a chart below displaying the current Market Ratios for various currencies.
Currency |
Mirror of Adventure |
Perfect Jeweller’s Orb |
Divine Orb |
Greater Jeweller’s Orb |
Orb of Annulment |
Orb of Chance |
Gemcutter’s Prism |
Chaos Orb |
Glassblower’s Bauble |
Exalted Orb |
Artificer’s Orb |
Orb of Alchemy |
Armourer’s Scrap |
Regal Orb |
Vaal Orb |
Arcanist’s Etcher |
Blacksmith’s Whetstone |
Lesser Jeweller’s Orb |
Orb of Transmutation |
Orb of Augmentation |
---|
Note that the first number in each ratio represents the numerator currency from the column, while the second number signifies the denominator currency from the row. For instance, trading Greater Jeweller’s Orbs for Orbs of Annulment requires sacrificing seven of the former to obtain one of the latter. Keep in mind that these ratios are dynamic and may fluctuate while you play.
Should You Monitor Exchange Rates?
The Pros & Cons
The quick answer is no, tracking exchange rates isn’t crucial for most players. No currency will ever completely lose its value, as all are useful in some capacity, even if their market demand wanes. In the worst-case scenario, you can transfer surplus currencies between characters through the Stash. The currency exchange primarily exists for convenience, allowing players to convert excess items into those they require.
However, managing your currency wisely could open avenues for profit in Path of Exile 2. If your character’s build is particularly efficient at generating a specific currency, and that currency has a favorable trade rate for another you frequently need, it’s wise to keep an eye on the market trends. While all players should check periodically, some will engage with the market more actively.
Congratulations on learning the basics of the Currency Exchange system! With this knowledge, you’re prepared to navigate the ever-changing economic landscape of Path of Exile 2. Monitoring the Market Ratio and recognizing trends can lead to lucrative opportunities in your gameplay. Stay tuned for updates, as the dynamic economy is one of the most engaging aspects of the game.
