To initiate this quest, head to Slaten Dale, targeting the village at coordinates (29.0E, 79.4N).Upon your arrival, you’ll encounter military officials who will direct you to Captain Sims, who can be found in the village hall. However, your primary destination is the large church located at the heart of the village.

Inside, you’ll discover a grim scene: the murder of a girl named Maisie. The vicar appears unfazed by the tragedy and intends to conceal the murder from the military, a tactic that seems reasonable given your interactions with them so far.

The vicar will request your silence regarding the incident, but if you can earn his trust or employ some cunning negotiation, you may extract further information. This could lead you to the Mereview Hotel. Alternatively, you might choose to threaten the vicar with demands for a reward, which allows early access to his chest upstairs and an expedient removal of his influence.

As a strategic tip, consider taking the Sickle from Maisie’s body; this weapon is a strong early-game melee option that inflicts bleeding damage.

Journey to the Mereview Hotel

Located beyond the Green and towards the water, the Mereview Hotel may initially seem inaccessible, leading you to believe the lead is stalled. However, exploring the nearby buildings reveals a note left by Maisie, detailing her observations of the shopkeeper, Morris.

The note reveals her investigation behind the hotel along the stream, providing you with crucial information to continue your quest.

Locating the Brewery Cellar

Equipped with this new intel, continue your exploration by venturing behind the hotel and moving through a break in the fence. Follow the stream until you arrive at a concealed structure known as the Brewery Cellar. If you cross paths with the Sewer Entrance, you’ve gone too far.

Once inside the cellar, be cautious of a swarm of rats but after them, you’ll find the area safe to navigate. This location offers useful supplies, including a Molotov Cocktail Recipe, advantageous for players at the beginning stages. Additionally, don’t miss the note on the table, which indicates that Morris Wick, the shopkeeper, is involved with the Druids and has a peculiar connection to the land.

At this juncture, you face a pivotal decision: confront Morris, return to the Vicar, or report your findings to Captain Sims.

Confronting Morris or the Vicar

Conversely, siding with the Vicar leads to a rather blunt request for you to eliminate Morris—an easy task as you can perform a takedown in Morris’ shop without drawing attention.

Returning to the Vicar after this act nets you a key to his chest located upstairs in the church, containing an Atomic Battery.

To maximize your gains effectively, my recommendation is to accept Morris’ bribe, inform the Vicar of his secrets, and then deal with Morris to cover all bases, ultimately reporting everything to Captain Sims. This approach, while it may not win you allies in the village, will ensure you reap the best rewards from this intricate lead.
