Comprehensive Guide to the Opus Magnum Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, after integrating himself into Miller Kreyzl’s illicit operations, Henry finally earns the trust to embark on the significant Opus Magnum quest.

Although players could hastily complete the quest by merely locating and picking up the desired item, such an approach diverges from the immersive experience typical of this realistic RPG. Therefore, let’s explore the quest steps as they are genuinely intended.

It’s important to note that due to the requirement for a respectable maid disguise, expenses may accumulate. To offset these costs, consider completing side quests like Miri Fajta, The Hermit, and The Jaunt, which allow you to gather resources and groschen for your endeavors.

Upon returning with a reliable supply of saltpetre for Kreyzl, Henry is tasked with orchestrating a heist on Trosky Castle to acquire a crucial alchemical manuscript for the Miller.

This quest aligns Henry’s needs with Kreyzl’s since gaining entry into the castle necessitates making connections with Lord von Bergow and his Chamberlain, Ulric, during the forthcoming marriage festivities of young Lord Semine and the bailiff’s daughter.

Initially, Henry must enlist a local woman to serve as their accomplice to attract Chamberlain Ulric’s attention. Although Bonnie, a known associate of the Miller, might come to mind, her reputation as a scoundrel makes her unsuitable.

Fortunately, Kreyzl suggests that a bathmaid at Zhelejov Inn might be persuaded with a generous offer of gold. Head to the Wagoner’s Inn and converse with the owner, Dorothy. However, after a lengthy exchange, she reveals that none of the maids are willing to approach Ulric and advises Henry to seek someone else.

Luckily, Dorothy connects you with Enneleyn, a maid staying at the Nomad’s Camp to the southwest, who may prove more amenable.

At the Nomad camp, approach Enneleyn and charm her with sweet words and an attractive bribe from the Miller. With some convincing, she’ll agree to help—but the real challenge begins here. Before heading to the wedding, Henry must obtain a special dress, perfume, and wine.p>

Acquiring Wine, a Dress, and Perfume for the Opus Magnum Quest

Getting wine should be straightforward; it can be purchased from general stores or found while looting defeated bandits during your adventures.

However, procuring Mintha perfume poses a greater challenge. Speak with Betty, the innkeeper in Troskowitz, who reveals that she has purchased the entirety of the town’s perfume stock for the event. Although she demands a king’s ransom for the phial, alternative methods exist to acquire it.

If you’ve honed your skills enough to pick medium locks, consider breaking into the pub’s pantry and heading upstairs where a locked chest beside a bed contains the desired perfume. If this is beyond you, the alchemist across the road offers it for approximately 200 groschen—haggling may reduce this cost by 10-25%.

For the perfume recipe, you will need three handfuls of mint, one handful of dandelion, and one handful of marigold. All these ingredients can either be purchased from the alchemist or harvested from his herb garden. Go to the free alchemy bench at the top of the alchemist’s garden, adjacent to the road, to brew your customized perfume.

  • First, pour in the wine base.
  • Grind three pinches of dandelion and one pinch of mint, adding both to the cauldron.
  • Boil the contents of the cauldron for two sandglass turns.
  • Add one marigold directly to the cauldron and boil for one more sandglass turn using the bellows.
  • To finish, retrieve a phial from the cauldron’s left side and activate the distillation equipment next to it.

With the perfume ready, focus shifts to finding a dress. Visit tailor Bartoshek to browse his inventory for a red cotehardie of Tyrolean brocade, as instructed.

If you’re up for it, you could wait until nightfall, sneak into the shop, and steal the dress. However, this option requires proficient lockpicking skills, which may not be feasible at this stage of gameplay.

Once you’ve acquired the wine, dress, and perfume, return to Enneleyn with your fancy attire and prepare to attend the ball. Keep in mind that this will also progress the Wedding Crashers quest simultaneously.

Locating Kreyzl’s Book in Trosky Castle

Be aware that the Opus Magnum quest will pause until the wedding concludes, after which you’ll transition directly into For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Given the time constraints, it’s advisable to tackle your immediate tasks efficiently and later attend to the scribe. Notably, after completing For Whom the Bell Tolls, you will gain access to most parts of the castle.

Scribe Erazim is typically found in his chamber on the castle’s western side. Talk to him and express interest in borrowing a book. Erazim indicates that the book has seemingly attracted the attention of another resident, Nikvard, and has been misplaced since arriving.

Henry offers to help locate the book, discovering the author’s initials are B. B.To advance the quest, engage in conversations with Bertha the cook, Regina the maid, and Hersh the hand.

Bertha can be located in the Crone’s kitchen, while Regina can usually be found on the opposite side of the palace. Hersh is at the transport yard located at the foot of the castle.

Engage Bertha first, ensuring you’re attired suitably for the conversation. Be prepared for a persuasion check, during which she discovers Nikvard requires a common bellyache potion due to an embarrassing incident. Nikvard’s attempt to keep the matter discreet has unfortunately left him in a compromising position.

Upon meeting Regina, she relays a message from Nikvard but admits to being unable to read it. Context indicates that he likely dropped the book in the privy during his hurried visit.

When you locate Hersh, he presents a peculiar request. To validate that you’re not a spy during wartime, he demands a sword for protection. You have options: steal, craft, or buy one—ensure that it’s specifically a “longsword” to avoid frustration.

With a new sword in hand, Hersh hints that Nikvard wanted you to retrieve something outside the castle but could not finish his request. Given the substantial cost of the longsword, this diversion might not be worthwhile.

To locate the book, head towards the privy area on the crone side of the castle. After exiting the front gate, navigate to the ditch beneath the privy on the northwestern castle wall, where you will find Nikvard, unfortunately incapacitated in a disgraceful heap.

Next to him, resting on the heap, is the missing book: Lightbringer’s Secret.

Return to Lower Semine Mill and deliver the book to Kreyzl. This action rewards you with experience points in thievery, stealth, scholarship, and agility.

Finally, visit the Lair across the river to join your crew and witness the culmination of this extensive quest, receiving a wealth of experience in various Miller skills along with a recipe for lead shot gunpowder as compensation.
