In the gripping universe of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the determined protagonist Naoe embarks on a dangerous mission to avenge her father’s murder. To do this, she targets the notorious sharpshooter known as the Golden Teppo, who was last spotted in the bustling port city of Sakai, located in Settsu.
This quest, however, is fraught with challenges given that the Golden Teppo is part of a shadowy organization adept at navigating the upper echelons of society without being detected. Naoe must therefore maneuver through Sakai’s affluent mercantile elite to uncover information regarding her target.
Investigating Sakai: A Step-by-Step Guide
Your journey begins in the vibrant port town of Sakai. Head towards the central areas marked on your map to track down vital clues.

Begin by eavesdropping on merchants engaged in a heated discussion; they’ll mention forged documents and trade prospects with the Imai mercantile family. This presents a potential opportunity for Naoe.
As you engage with these merchants, when questioned about your credentials, confidently state that you work for the Imai family and that you are familiar with their son (noting that Imai has no daughter).
Should the thugs attempt to extort you for information, choose the assertive option and pursue them to obtain the contracts you need.

Next, navigate to the southwest corner of Sakai to locate the Imai trading house, indicated by a blue dot on your map. Speak with Sokun, the son, who initially doubts your credentials.
To gain his trust, assert that business necessitates a bold strategy, then choose any name for yourself—but be sure to remember it for future reference.
Accompany Sokun as he leads you to his office, where you will share a drink of sake. During this conversation, express that you represent a promising investment opportunity. Successfully navigating the dialogue will earn you a meeting with his father and crucial intel on the elusive Golden Teppo. However, before entering the world of Japanese business, Sokun advises you to study tea etiquette and acquire a Kosode.
Selecting Your Kosode: Red or Black?
To blend into the elegant atmosphere of high society, you must find a short-sleeved, formal robe known as a Kosode. The relevant shop is located along the harbor.
When you approach the merchant, you’ll discover that the finest silks from China are under blockade due to pirate activity. To procure the necessary materials, swim into the harbor and retrieve the silk from a ship anchored to the left.
Which Kosode should you choose: Black or Red?
Once you have dealt with the pirates, return to the merchant. You will be presented with a choice: a Kosode made from exquisite red Chinese silk or one crafted from black Portuguese silk.

Select the black silk Kosode to project sophistication among the foreign merchants while also revealing a crucial clue later in your quest due to its elegant golden trim.
Securing the Ideal Gift: The Tea Ceremony
Your next task is to procure the perfect gift. Head to the tea merchants situated at the northern edge of Sakai, alongside the canal encircling the town.
Upon speaking with them, you’ll encounter the respected tea master, Sen No Rikyu, just in time to enlist his assistance.

During your lessons, remember that guests should enter as equals, while the host becomes the servant. When participating in the ceremony, always bow halfway as a sign of equality. Additionally, you’ll need to ensure that the bowl is rotated slightly to the right after each sip, with its most beautiful side facing the host as a gesture of humility. Lastly, don’t forget to bring an appropriate gift after the ceremony and select either a jar or a ladle to honor Imai’s expertise as a tea master.
Participating in the Tea Ceremony
Once you return to Imai Sokun, you will be invited to wear your Kosode for the tea ceremony. When asked about its significance, explain that it is a spiritual experience. After an unexpected interruption, exit into the garden to converse with the other guests.
Your first interaction should be with Otama. Be mindful of the name you provided to the Imai family, as the elder Imai will recall it. Otama criticizes your Kosode and questions your invitation. Given her longstanding connection with the family, it’s prudent to rely on your etiquette training rather than fabricating a friendship with Sokun.
Next, engage with Lady Satoko, who expresses her disinterest in the gathering and reveals her inclination towards hunting bandits. Her disdain for those who steal during tough times is palpable as she excuses herself.

Finally, converse with Wakasa, who admires your Kosode and tests your familiarity by asking about your origins. Reply that you are new to Sakai and avoid disclosing too much information. Identifying her as a newcomer herself, she invites you to visit at Osaka Castle.
As the tea ceremony commences, acknowledge the Imai greeting by bowing halfway. When it is your turn to partake in the tea, remember to rotate the bowl twice to the right. Imai will appreciate your gift, allowing you to depart into the night with newfound insights.
Outside in the courtyard, you’ll face the choice of whether to confront Otama or Wakasa, setting the stage for a revelation of Wakasa’s identity as the Golden Teppo, the foe you’ve pursued. Following this confrontation, seize the rifle displayed on the wall, concluding the quest while earning substantial experience points, currency, the Shinobi’s Fury Tanto, and the Pirate Flag decoration.
