Comprehensive Guide to the Destiny 2 Prophecy Dungeon

Comprehensive Guide to the Destiny 2 Prophecy Dungeon

Destiny 2 consistently impresses with its endgame content, particularly through its meticulously designed dungeons and raids that challenge even the most seasoned players. The satisfaction of earning unique gear makes every effort worthwhile.

A standout amongst these is the Prophecy Dungeon, often regarded as one of the easier dungeons to complete with a solo-flawless run. This Nine-themed adventure poses a fundamental question: what truly distinguishes Light from Dark?

Launched on June 9, 2020, during the Season of Arrivals, this guide focuses on the dungeon’s mechanics found in the standard version, distinct from the Rite of the Nine event. Players can typically access the dungeon through the “Legends”tab in their Director under normal circumstances.

While the core mechanics remain consistent in the Rite of the Nine version, this guide will delve into the essentials of navigating this surreal landscape, including the secret chests that players might find intriguing, along with recommended loadouts to simplify the experience.

Initial Mechanics – Light and Dark Motes

The Prophecy Dungeon is inhabited by Taken enemies, and players will quickly discover that each encounter shares similar mechanics, albeit with subtle variations. You’ll start aboard the Drifter’s ship, where a portal leads into the realm of the Nine, introducing you to Taken Thrall and Taken Knights.

An impassable door obstructs your path; to unlock it, you must complete a puzzle that introduces core dungeon mechanics involving Light and Dark motes dropped by Major (orange health bar) Taken Knights.

Your objective is to collect five motes of either type, which combine into a singular object and alter your perspective to third-person view. To make Knights drop the necessary motes, position yourself in either light or shade: lit areas yield Light motes, while shadowed spots produce Dark motes.

Your HUD displays Light or Dark indicators in the corners of the screen. Each Knight drops three motes, so you’ll need to defeat at least two to create a significant mote. Motes will dissipate after 30 seconds, and acquiring an opposite mote replaces your current one.

With five motes secured, deposit them on the corresponding plate by pressing the shoot button near the appropriate circle. Activating a melee attack in midair while carrying motes can provide a slight speed boost.

Successfully activating both plates opens the door, allowing you to proceed to the next area. Given the simplicity of this encounter, there’s no need for specific loadouts; any weapon capable of efficiently dispatching tougher foes will suffice.

Following the two rooms, you’ll spot the Kell Echo, the ultimate boss, who will teleport away, leading you to ascend through the tunnel and onto a circular platform where the first official encounter begins.

Encounter One – Phalanx Echo

Walkthrough

To initiate the first encounter, rally your fireteam and approach the Taken sphere. You’ll face a Taken Phalanx equipped with a substantial shield, along with its relentless assaults while navigating a confined arena.

Before you can engage the boss, you’ll first contend with a wave of Taken Knights and Psions. Notably, two sets of plates—representing Light and Dark—float in the vicinity. To make the boss vulnerable, you’ll need to deposit the correct motes dropped by the Taken Knights.

Stand in the respective area to obtain the corresponding motes: light for Light motes, dark for Dark motes. After cleansing any plate with the correct motes, the arena’s lighting dynamics will shift.

To optimize this encounter, note that the mote “attack”has a broad area of effect, allowing you to minimize effort by positioning yourself perfectly in between the two pillars. Mastery of this technique relies on practice and precise timing.

Once both Light and Dark motes are deposited, the boss’s shield drops, making it vulnerable to damage. Be prepared, as Taken Goblins will now appear to shield the Phalanx. Quickly neutralize them, and focus your fire on the boss itself, which, without protection, should fall quickly.

This boss fight emphasizes close-quarters combat, so equip high-damage melee or shotgun options. Despite its imposing shield, the Phalanx does not possess excessive health.

For this encounter, I recommend two class-specific builds: one Light-based for free-to-play Guardians and a more intricate build for those with access to Darkness subclasses.

Prismatic Melee Hunter equipped with Relativism and any One-Two Punch shotgun.

Using your Titan’s rally barricade, Storm’s Keep can be an excellent defensive position while dealing damage. Note that the Thunderlord is particularly effective, as it rapidly diminishes both adds and the Phalanx’s health. Alternatively, shotguns with the One-Two Punch perk or swords can also be used, but be cautious as the boss can quickly counter-attack.

Traversal – Wasteland

Walkthrough

Defeating the Phalanx opens a portal that leads you back to the Wasteland, where you can summon your vehicle to hunt down three Blights.

In this area, you will encounter Taken Thralls and Taken Hobgoblins stationed on high ledges, ready to attack. Be vigilant while navigating between the three Blights, as invisible Taken Minotaurs can destroy your vehicle and pose a serious threat.

Upon destroying a Taken Blight, a Taken probe will appear; following it leads you to the next Blight. After ravaging all three Blights, a notification will inform you that “The Way is Open, ”facilitating access to the subsequent encounter within the Hexahedron.

Secret Chest

Following your first encounter with the Phalanx Echo, the first secret chest can be discovered in the Wastelands. Look for stone formations crowned with golden tops. Inside the middle part, you’ll find a narrow crawlspace leading to some loot.

Remember that secret chests yield only gear you have previously acquired, so if it’s your initial run, you may find yourself collecting duplicates from earlier encounters.

Encounter Two – The Hexahedron

destiny-2-prophecy-037

This encounter takes place within a large structure called the Hexahedron, where you’ll aim to escape using the same Light and Dark mote mechanics.

Walkthrough

After rallying, approach the Taken probe, initiating the encounter. You will be swarmed by various Taken foes, including Acolytes, Hobgoblin snipers, and Knight Echoes, alongside the Light and Dark pillars positioned in the arena.

Your task is to deposit motes into the pillars positioned beneath the probe; ensure you take a moment to locate the probe before collecting the corresponding motes from the fallen Knights.

If the probe rests atop a Light pillar, collect and deposit Light motes there; otherwise, you can use any plate if it sits on the ceiling. Following successful deposits, the room will illuminate, elevating you and shifting the arena’s layout. I recommend eliminating all enemies first to prevent being overwhelmed while airborne.

Chase the probe after it reappears to progress. Repeat this process, and two Centurion Echoes will emerge as a final hurdle before you clear the encounter.

destiny-2-prophecy-079

The encounter here is relatively straightforward. Ensure your arsenal is equipped with your best add-clear weapons and abilities for survivability. Any weapon with mid to long-range capabilities will assist in dealing with Hobgoblin snipers.

Machine guns like Thunderlord or Commemoration with substantial ammo reserves are excellent choices for crowd control.

Traversal – Singularity

After collecting your loot, exit the Hexahedron through the wall slit, which will return you to the familiar realms of Heaven and Hell.

Utilize your vehicle to explore the Wasteland again, directing your path to the right to reach the final boss. If you catch sight of the Kell Echo teleporting, you are headed in the right direction.

Upon entering the next enormous geometric structure, you’ll traverse a twisting path known among Guardians as “Rainbow Road.”Ensure to follow the vibrant ribbons while dodging sniping Taken Vandals.

A Skimmer can enhance mobility in this section, allowing you to cover distance efficiently, although you might occasionally need to respawn it for better positioning. Keep in mind repeated summons may reduce your speed boost, so time it wisely.

Once you reach a broad platform featuring Taken enemies, feel free to fight or ignore them before stepping onto the plate and riding the tractor beam up to your final confrontation.

Secret Chest

The final secret chest lies within the last octahedron, positioned near the platform preceding the entrance to the pyramid at the end of the ribbon road. Upon entering, quickly turn right into the corner to find a hidden entrance.

Follow the path that leads down, leap across the chasm, and you’ll reach the coveted secret chest.

Encounter Three – Kell Echo

Walkthrough

The climactic battle against the Kell Echo will synthesize everything you’ve learned within the dungeon. Thankfully, its mechanics are straightforward, and the boss itself isn’t excessively powerful.

The battleground features a pyramid with designated plates at each corner, where the boss will fracture into three clones while launching shrapnel at you. Expect Knight Echoes and Taken Psions to appear as distractions.

Collect motes and deposit them into the correct plates to summon an Ultra Taken Ogre that must be defeated to proceed, as it can quickly overwhelm your team.

Completing this process across all corners will unlock a portal leading to a corridor filled with floating platforms. Here, you’ll encounter a debuff named Dark Entropy which can stack up to ten times before lethal consequences occur. Stay within the proximity of the boss to mitigate this effect.

As the confrontation progresses, the boss will retreat down this corridor, accompanied by Hobgoblin snipers. The Taken Captain will occasionally hurl blobs that displace you, increasing your Dark Entropy stacks if you fail to return swiftly.

Consistently deal damage while maintaining your distance from the boss’s shadow projectiles, which have a wide hit box for errant fire.

As the battle escalates, expect the boss to teleport away again, which will unlock a new portal leading back to the main arena, where the setup of lit and shadowed zones will have transformed.

destiny-2-prophecy-075

Continue this cycle until the Kell Echo is vanquished.

destiny-2-002

Focus on add-clearing and survival during this encounter, utilizing special weapons against Knight Echoes and prioritizing burst damage for the Taken Ogres to manage their threat effectively. Linear fusion rifles are particularly advantageous for this fight.

One recommended weapon is Queenbreaker, though Sleeper Simulant is also a strong alternative, albeit with lower ammo efficiency.Even without specific artifact mods, this weapon class remains formidable.
