Quest givers often have a peculiar way of issuing their challenges, don’t you think? After a treacherous journey through the Casterfell Woods, battling druids and dodging an overwhelming array of traps, you finally make it to Mother Jago. You’re hoping to procure that infamous and enigmatic tonic she’s known for.
This tonic is crucial for surviving the infections caused by the growth overwhelming the quarantine zone.
Obtaining this antidote is vital if you wish to delve into the perilous underground areas of Atomfall, particularly significant zones nestled within the Interchange.
Moreover, it holds importance in Wyndham as well, especially in relation to The Bakery lead, where you step in to assist a distraught wife caring for her ill husband.
However, instead of handing you a dozen vials of her famed potion, Mother Jago reveals she is completely out of supplies and surprisingly clueless about how to craft it. This might raise some eyebrows regarding her expertise as a herbalist—after all, can a seasoned herbalist truly forget their treasured recipe? Regardless, the challenge at hand is the same: you are now embarking on a fetch quest.
Preparing for the Rescue

Mother Jago will inform you that the recipe book is currently with the druids, who have taken it back to their stronghold within the castle.
This druidic base resides in the southwestern sector of Casterfell Woods.
Though she claims the matter isn’t worth risking your life over, the castle and the nearby druid encampments are strictly off-limits to outsiders. Druids are inherently cautious, and getting caught on their territory will lead to immediate hostility.
Before embarking on this quest, it’s prudent to ensure your health is at maximum and to stock up on healing items and ammunition.
Infiltrating the Druid Castle
Approach the castle’s entrance; both the northern and southern paths are heavily fortified, while the main gate is less populated.
Utilize the grass and druid tents for cover, and if you’re spotted, it’s better to flee. This isn’t a fight you want to engage in, as you will be vastly outnumbered.
If you’re aiming to retrieve the recipe promptly, make your way through the main entrance. Alternatively, you can explore the Castle Ruins to the left of the main gate, albeit this route can be quite a maze.
Inside the Castle Ruins, you may encounter the High Priestess, who possesses an Atomic Battery, adding potential value to this scenic detour, depending on how many you’ve already managed to collect.
Regardless of your entrance method, once inside, remember to take the first left into the kitchen and search the counters for the Castle Key required to access the primary area of the building. The key can be found near a candle and a decaying pot.
Upon entering the banquet hall, eliminate any adversaries and look for a keyhole beside the fireplace, which will lead you to a concealed doorway into the castle’s main section.
Locating the Recipe and the Book
Be prepared to confront a few druids upon entering. Once they are dealt with, proceed to the door on your right.
At the far end of the table lies Mother Jago’s book on a plate, surrounded by flickering candles. While you’re there, make sure to retrieve the book, but remember that your priority is also the tonic recipe, so gather both during your visit.
The recipe pages are located on a counter to the left of the book. Activate the button to learn the recipe, concluding the Hearing Voices questline.
Exit the castle the same way you came, keeping an eye out for respawning druids lurking outside.
Mother Jago’s Strange Tonic

With the tonic recipe secured, you can now shield yourself from the growth plaguing the underground areas throughout the quarantine zone.
Mother Jago’s tonic enhances your resistance against fungal infections, mitigates any existing contamination, and lessens damage from infection-triggering hazards.
The recipe for the strange tonic necessitates the following ingredients per unit:
Ingredient |
Quantity |
---|---|
Spores |
4 |
Chemicals |
1 |
Glass |
3 |
Herbs |
5 |
Spores may be the most challenging ingredient to find unless you’ve acquired Blue Fingers on the skill tree. Luckily, Mother Jago remains well-stocked with spores, which are relatively inexpensive for trade.
If you wish, you can even brew some tonic and deliver it to the baker to assist in saving her husband as part of The Bakery lead.
